It is bad enough having insurance when your a teen male, but when you have a sports car with a V8 in it...well it gets a whole lot worse. I just bought my dream car (a pontiac trans am) and now I would like insurance so I can drive it....the car cleared out my savings(im a senior in high school so I didnt have a whole lot to begin with). I heard viking insurance is good , but IDK. I want to have decent coverage, but also not have my whole paycheck go to them either. anybody have any tips or know of any good insurance companies.
ps and no i dont want to sell my car and buy some Civic lol

My dad just called up Geico and found them super cheap compared to all the others. It never hurts just to call up. You can always find some cut rate insurance companies in the yellow pages that offer dirt cheap rates just to get you legal on the road. Open the yellow pages and call around.

Geico is really good. I use to work for them. There are lots of tips to get a cheaper rate with them also. When they ask you how you drive the car say you do not drive the car to work or business. They will ask you estimated mileage and say you only use the car for pleasure so about 3,000 miles a year. Not many people know this but how often you drive the car even if your not sure they will put 15,000 miles and that can send your rate sky rocketing. Then with the coverage. You should get comp and collision in case the car is stolen or in an accident. Get a $500 deductible (this means Geico will be responsible for everything but $500 of the damages). Get glass because its like $2 a month and if you even get a crack they will come to your driveway and replace it no charge so that is worth it. Now they will try to make you take the highest limits. Tell them you want all your limits at the state minimum. They will tell you oh get $100,000 protection and so on but you dont need it. Your only 18 and have no assets so its not worth it and you can save lots there. Your still protected with the minimum. Take a defensive driving course. This is annoying and 4 hours but will take a 10% chunk off your bill so its worth it. When they ask you what kind of security systems you have say you have one. This will effect your bill as well. If you could go on a parents policy it is always cheaper but if you have to get your own this is the way to do it. Remember because your a teenager, boy you are going to pay more but it will go down. Keep a good driving record and once your 24 your rates will drastically decrease. Also if you have bad credit (because car insurance is done by credit as well) tell them you do not want them to run it. By law they cant if you tell them no and then it cant effect your rates. Good luck!

Try to get a high deductible, say $1000 or $2000.. this will keep your rates lower while providing you with good insurance. As far as companies that are cheap, you'll just have to call around. Your rates have to also with your address, driving record, the phase of the moon, if Mars is in Jupiter's fifth house, etc. etc. etc. Probably places that don't have brick and mortar buildings will be less expensive due to lower overhead ( progressive, geico, etc)

Unfortunately, you're going to be classified as a high risk driver for the next few years. The good news is there are some companies out there that specialize in this market and they could save you a boat load of cash. Call a local, independent agent and have them come up with some quotes for you. They usually sell for several different companies so they can shop for you. As you mentioned, Viking is one of the companies that comes to mind for me. If you must have full coverage, get high deductibles. That will help keep the rate low. Good luck shopping and enjoy your car!

I just switched to state farm saved some but I am not 18. I had to get new insurance every six months when I was that age. Your parents won't put you on their policy?? that would be the cheapest due to multiple car discounts...
