Is she drinking alot of sugar based soft drinks now instead? Because those can be just as bad as the beer. Alot of people also eat more to fill a void when they give something up such as alcohol. She has to really monitor what she eats and make changes from there. If she had significantly taken alot of calories out of her diet she would have seen results already in 3 months. I doubt she will start losing the weight now if she hasn't lost any in 3 months unless she changes her lifestyle.

She needs to drink only water. No diet soda at all. Also to cut out everything made with flour (including bread and bagels) and sugar, as these are empty calories. Instead, eat lots of fresh vegetables and good quality protein that hasn't been battered and deep fried. It's going to start coming off soon after she does this.

The first two have it right. Whiskey is definitely a safe choice, in my opinion. It can be mixed with just about anything, or drank straight up. I like to drink it on the rocks, or a jack and coke. I'd stay away from baileys or those kind of drinks. They seem kinda girly. He may get teased.
