Depending on the age, amount of time missing, location, condition. The child could go to the hospital to be checked, or treated, and be reunited with the parents.

Depends........ if the child was at all injured or possibly abused or such... To a Hospital.

If not, than the child would be taken to be immediately reunited with the parents. And then, with a parent or Mental Health professional present, the child may be interviewed.

Unless the parents were in neglect causing the child to go missing.. then the child would be turned over to protective services until a court could determine placement.

There is no exact policy that says they must go here or there. It is evaluated on a case by case basis.

Depending on the condition of the child when found......he/she could go into protective custody if found to be healthy. If in need of medical attention.......the first place might be an ambulance.
