He's probably adjusting to the new house, but he might have been accustomed to being fed table scraps. If you wait it out he will eat. We just moved my 2 year old pomeranian/ cocker spaniel mix from my parents house to my house and he wouldn't eat for a little while. But eventually he got used to the house and started eating.
As for the scab on his side, I would take him to a vet to check it out. 9 years old if pretty old for a dog so he should have a check up regularly anyway.

He probably needs some time to adjust. A 9 year old dog takes more time to bond to a new family than a puppy would. Also, poodles can be prone to health problems as they age so keep an eye on him. If you have a gut feeling that something is wrong take him to the vet. If you think that he just needs a little time then give it too him. You are the only one that can judge accurately. Also, what kind of food are you feeding. That may be part of the problem. I highly recommend a premium brand of dog food. When you look at the cost of the food compared to the peace of mind for having a healthy happy dog, its worth it. I feed Black Gold Premium dog food. It not much more expensive than your higher grade store brands (like pedigree) but its great tasting to the dogs and its formulated right for them. It doesn't have all the filler and junk that other foods have in it so you have less clean up. The main point is you dog should like the food if you expect him to eat it. Good luck!

I don't know about dog nutrition, but I do know about cat nutrition and your cat will not be healthy on dog food. It doesn't contain taurine which is essential to a cat. Aslo I'm sure it's full of grain, which is basically carbohydrates and your cat can develop diabetes and become fat. You need to be strict for their own sake and feed them high quality species appropriate diet. Feed them at the same time in different rooms. Take the food away after 30 minutes if they don't eat it and refrigerate it. Try again in a few hours. No animal will starve itself just out of being fussy about their food. The cat would be harder to adjust, but the dog will give in pretty fast. Pour some tuna juice over the cat's food, it should make it more appealing. You can try mixing it gradually, but you need to make a change or you are risking your pets' health in the long run. More about cat nutrition here:

Could be a number of things... 9 years old is getting up there in dog years (although small breeds can live to be 14+) have you checked his teeth?? If he has teeth problems he may not want to eat hard dog food and prefer softer foods. It could also be that his diet before you had him maybe consisted of foods other than dog food and hes just not used to it. Have you tried moist dog foods?? Most dogs wont resist moist dog food. Could also be that hes just adjusting to life in a new place... I'm sure either way he'll come around though.. as long as he is eating something there isn't much need to worry at the moment.

Yes your dog is eating, just table food which, approaching geriatric age, isn't good for him.

Stop all human food and treats and offer only his food and dog treats. Put it down in the morning for 30 mins limited time. Repeat in the afternoon. The amt depends on the size of the dog (check with your vet).

If he doesn't eat, put the food up. Don't leave it out. Don't give in and give table food. He will eat. If he is still being stubborn, you can get supplements like "Mixit" from Science Diet at your veterinarian or something similiar from the pet superstores. Also, make an appointment to make sure his teeth are healthy as well.

1. Stop giving him "anything else u give him"

2. He will eat when he gets hungry enough.

3. Make sure you have plenty of fresh water available 24/7

4. Get him to a vet for an examination (take in a stool sample when you go to check for worms).

5. After a dog has anesthesia for any kind of surgery, the vet always tells me no solid food till the next day. BUT, tells me to offer broth, like beef or chicken broth. I use low sodium, low fat (like College Inn or something like that.) She loves it. It's like a treat...could try mixing some in with dry dog food or offering it alone until vet can give you better advice.

6. If scab look infected or like it's not healing well or fairly new injury, would consider getting to vet or animal hospital sooner rather than later.

First of all don't give him scraps, then you will never be able to give him dog food.
Second go to the petstore and by a can of wet dog food. Mix his food with 50 50 dry and wet do that for a while and then slowly take away the wet dog food. I do this anytime my dog hasn't been eating.
Third take him to the vert and have everything checked. He might have been sold to you cheap for a reason

well they say animals do not eat if they are worried/stressed
so that might be why he is not eating however it might be that the dog food your giving him is to hard for him but if it is wet food he is eating it might be that he is fussy and does not like that sort, so i would get some different dog food in, please try not to give him food that people eat as alot of people food is bad for animals. if he is not eating the new food you get then try find out what he ate when he was a very little puppy, if you can not find out or you have found out and h is not eating that then i would take him to a vet.
good luck and i hope this helps.

A 9 yr. old new dog should be seen by a VET (doctor) for evaluation. Whoever sold him to your brother may not have been able to afford a VET bill.

well if i was you i would take him to the vet and see what is wrong with him see like if you get a dog is cheap it must be a reason why it is so cheap or it is something wrong with it it might be tired of his dog food the person that sold the dog to your brother was probably feeding him table food or the dog just don't like dog food one of them or probably all of them i would take him to the vet if i was you because it could be a serious anything could happen....
