they do hurt but only for the first few days. after that they just fell sore after you get them tightened. i would say on a scale of 1 to 10 about a 5-6. don't worry just relax and think the pain is all worth it you will have straight teeth in no time.

Probably a 2. I had them on twice for a total of 4 years and the worse pain was getting the spacers. The spacers are done before the braces and are designed to space out your molars to make room for the anchors that are used to anchor your braces. The pain comes from the movements coming very rapidly.

Getting the braces tightened was cake from there. Braces is a process and it tends to go slow for not only not to hurt you, but there is less chance your teeth will move post braces if the teeth moved over slowly, otherwide you would have a boomerang effect.

On your scale, only about a 2 or 3. Don't worry about it. Braces don't cause all around "pain;" it'll last for 3 days max after your appointment. If it lasts more go see your orthodontist, there might be something wrong, but it really depends on your braces.

Their not to bad. I admit they are a little painful but it only last a day or two. What helps alot is eating ice cream. It helped me atleast. And if that doesnt help take some kinda pain reliever. But dont worry there not bad at all and just think of the ending results.

Best of Luck!

I remember the first day with my braces it was very hard. My mouth hurt and everything like yours. You should take a Motrin or Tylenol. And if it is your teeth that are hurting then put some oral-jel on it to make it feel a little better. Hope they stop hurting soon when I went to bed that night they felt better!

They seem alright the day you get them. Later that evening the bottom (if you get those) will ache like mad.
I didn't get pain as such, just aching.
Second morning with them they woke me up at 6am, took a paracetamol and went back to bed.

Make sure you have about 8 paracetamol's handy and take two at a time following the instructions on the packet.
