Probably cares more about its hockey team and less about its football team than any American City.

There are some differences between Toronto and a city in the US. For one, it is extremely safe for the size of the population and you do not have to worry too much about violence or other aggressive crimes. Secondly, the taxes here are a lot higher. If you're looking to live here, expect to pay approximately 14-15% on everything. The people are not too friendly actually. I find Torontoians to be a bit closed, but will warm up after they get to know you. Toronto also has its share of parks, trails, and walking paths by the lake. Fashion here is not as current as you would find in NY, LA, DC, or Miami. When it's a holiday, the whole city tends to shutdown (i.e. most grocery stores, malls, businesses will be closed).

If you have other questions, feel free to send me a message.

Toronto is probably a safer city to be in, especially at night. They do have their typical 'big city' problems, however, but your risk factor is much smaller. Toronto is an engaging
City with many things to do and see. It is also a very clean city.
So, weighing all the above, the difference may be in the eye of the beholder in the final analysis.

American cities have a life to them. History, and proud people.
Toronto is basically Canada's cesspool. The people are unfriendly and basically not very bright. I travel frequently for business and truly hate the city of Toronto. Everyone there is left-wing politically, unaware of the world outside, and robotic in behaviour. If you're traveling, go elsewhere.
Toronto also is a smelly city, with a very run-down look. It has a few attractions but isn't worth seeing.
