~~~ G of A ,,,, Please check out a bookshelf and find the works of the late Prof. Joseph Campbell and his lifetime's work on the Mythology of Mankind. You will find that "Science" has nothing to do with the "proving" of Religious Origins. All it takes is a bit of Research of the work of those who have already dedicated their lives to such Scholarly Pursuits. I humbly suggest you begin by reading this Best Source available on the subject, discover the correlation of Mythology and Religion being synonomous,,,then go from there on your Journey to Higher Knowledge. The only Mystery of ANY religion is Ignorance. ~ Note: Science, however, CAN prove/disprove certain Scientific Claims of Scripture(word of god),,, For Example= That the earth is NOT the Center of The Universe, or even it's own galaxy, or that it's merely a small member of a Solar System, etc.~~ Namaste`
The precursor to modern day religion is indead based on ancient mythology. But what was the precursor to ancient mythology? Archeologists first discovered ceremonial burials among our ancestors around 60,000 years ago. Most have assumed that this was the time homo sapiens first came up with the concept of an afterlife and belief in a higher being.
This is a loaded question.
Scientific and rational thought show the Earth to be over 4 bil. yrs. old. This is really beyond question.
Myths-ancient or otherwise- are stories with maybe an iota of fact in there somewhere. There's flood stories in many cultures,for instance.
Use some logic and common sense to reach the obvious conclusion.
Free your mind from the tyranny of religion.
Um, no, but reading about ancient mythology can prove that religion is based off of it.
Common sense tells us that it is...
For example....why are both Greek and Roman religion now considered mythology????
During the times the stories were being written down, the people writing them believed in them just as fiercely as any religious individual believes in their religious dogma.
It's only a matter of time until our current religions are relegated to "myth" and some other kooky practice springs up....
Science doesn't have to prove anything,it's up to religion to prove that it isn't.
Unfortunately for the religious that can't be done.
People have used "science" to "prove" all kinds of false things, so why not?
In the 70's, "science" proved that the world was starting the next ice age. Today, "science" has proved that we're gonna burn up soon. "Science" proved that the best way to rid someone of evil spirits was to put leeches on them and bleed out the evil. Science has proved that a woman who has an abortion is at more risk of breast cancer, and it has also proved the opposite.
"Science" can "prove" absolutely anything that a person with an agenda wants it to....
Let me refer you to "Why We Believe What We Believe" by Andrew Newberg. He is a neurobiologist and has studied the way faith makes itself manifest in the brain.
