we have a three yr old lab husky mix that we just adopted two weeks ago, we just noticed that he has a small amount, very small amount of blood in his stool, is that normal or should we get him checked out by the vet?

With him being new to the family and all the stress he's gone through it sounds like it may be coccidia. I'd bring a fresh stool sample to the vet and have them run a fecal test just to be on the safe side. Coccidia isn't very fun for the dog and is very easy and inexpensive to treat. That is my recomendation. Good luck

You need to take her to your vet. Get a fresh stool sample from the morning you're going to take her. They will look at it under a microscope for parasites & will also be able to determine if this is new blood or old blood. Best to check with your vet because it could be a number of things. This is not normal.

you shouldn't see blood in the stool.
Yes have it checked by a vet and bring a stool sample
Good chance it's worms. but could be something else. When you see bllod in the stool it is always wise to go to the vet.
Don't try the over the counter wormers as they really don't work it's best to get from the vet

You have just adopted this dog. I would definitely get a check done right away. It isn't normal to have blood in stool. Make the soonest appt that you can and if you see any more blood or if your pup is starting to show any tirdness, try to get there sooner than later.

Did the blood come out before the feces or after. If it came out before that is a sign of hook or whipworms. If he came out after the feces it's most likely due to stress. In some cases if a dog gets excited or if they have been holding it for a long time they will strain when defecating. If he does it again take a sample into your vet. A phone call to your vet might also help just to keep him informed. They can also tell you if there is an outbreak of anything in your area.

It's not normal. I would get it checked before it gets worse. Often times, things like that are very easily treated.

I'd get him checked, you can't tell if he's going through something major or if he has a cut. You should always be on the safe side! ☺

that is usually not normal. i would rather be safe and get it checked out rather than be sorry and possibly lose the dog
