I know this question has been asked before but I've read the answers and none seem to really apply.
The cat is male, about 6 years old, and fixed. We have two other cats in the house, also fixed. Everyone loves this cat so he gets plenty of attention, sleeps on the bottom of my bed every night and is eating/using the litter box regularly.

He has always meowed more then our other cats but only if someone came home, or if you see him in the morning, things like that.
Now, he meows at all of the above but for about 3 or 4 hours throughout the day he'll just sit outside the bedrooms upstairs and meow constantly. All the doors are open, he can go where he pleases, he just hangs out in the hallway and meows. It's a loud meow. It's really annoying when it happens early in the morning or late at night.

Any ideas? He's been doing this for about a week now.
Should I take him to the vet?

Thanks!

He is a vocal cat, but he's six years old and it's only been the past week that he's been meowing so much.

Hahah and I do talk back to him, my roommates might think I'm crazy but I enjoy it. The cat seems to also.

Big Fat Xander talks ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME.
I don't know what his problem is. Some kitties talk more than others. If you're that concerned bring it up when you next go to the vet.

you have a talker.... converse with him in cat talk...meow meow..it is not very difficult and the cat enjoys conversation...

I have always talked with the cats....when I come home from work, it is meow meow for 10 minutes...conversation of whatever, but they are happy for the interaction....

over time you will be able to pick up on the different words that have meaning....a question... a food...hello....

he has been doing this for about a week?? in the hallway? is this an older home? is there a furnace in this area?

cats will warn of something wrong, since it is coming on to colder weather perhaps he is noticing something that needs to be checked out??? a wiring issue that only "he" can hear with in the walls perhaps? the heater isn't right ?

It sounds silly, but have you tried coming out to him on your hands and knees and following him wherever he leads you?

We have 2 vocal males, and occasionally, one or both will "talk" incessantly--one actually kept talking till he lost his voice once. Every time, it was because they were trying to tell us something. Most of the time, it's because a centipede or something is in the house and they're trying to kill it. They've also told us when we left a burner on the stove all night, when we left the front door ajar, when our neighbors (apartment building) get new pets, when the washing machine was leaking, and when the other cat managed to get stuck inside a box inside a suitcase inside a shut closet...

I once had a cat that seemed more vocal than any other cat I've ever had.
Turns out, she was blind in one eye...and her sight was getting progressively worse in the other.
Although cats have a keen sense of smell, a change in sight can cause an insecurity.

Cats are very sensitive to things in the house. Maybe he is noticing something you don't notice. Look around that spot.

It might simply be that he is a very vocal kitty. But a check-up wouldn't hurt, if he's meowing because something's hurting him.

Yes take him to a vet NOW.And if you can,try to find a vet that specializes in that type of problem.but don't wait till you find one.your vet should know what to do,or he will ref ere you to one that can.But don't wait do it as soon as you can.hopefully your cat will get over it,but take him to a vet anyway.
