When I was at school a few years back, someone asked the priest about this and he said that masturbation is a sin. Apparantly sexual pleasure is a reward for married couples who are having children, therefore sex before marriage, masturbation and contraception are all morally wrong (as they do not lead to children born in wedlock).
I also remember someone saying something about remaining celibate before marriage because you belong to god and if you have sex, you're cheating on Jesus.
But the thing about christians is that you can go to confession, be punished by having to recite a few prayers, then everything is ok again.
I really wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Just enjoy yourself and don't let other people tell you what to believe. The important thing is to do what is right by your own conscience.

You masturbate in your closet? That is a little weird. LOL My experience most fundies say no sex or masturbation before marriage. Actually, no masturbation a all. I don't know why xians like to pick & choose what they want to enforce in the bible, but they seem hell bent on demonizing sex. Many doctors & phsycologists believe you should have sex before marriage, because sex is an important part of a healthy relationship & you do not really want to marry without knowing if you are compatible. Also, it is healthy to masterbate, you become aware of your body this way. If it were up to fundies women would still be wearing chastity belts. If you want to listen to hypocrite fundies be my guest, but you will be doing yourself & possibly your partener a huge disservice. Remember it also says to stone unruly children & ppl that work on Sundays, yet we see many xians ignoring this. They just have a problem with sex it seems.

Marriage is the unity of 2 people before God.
The ceremony we now have is based on pagan traditions when Christianity was brought over to the West when blending it with paganism would make the masses accept the change.
Therefore I would imagine unity and marriage is up for interpretation.
As for mastrubation, it is in itself an act which releases (natural) sexual tension and therefore helps people to act less out of lust when confronted with other situations which affect other people.
Of course like anything in this world which is enjoyable it is possible to take up an unhealthy amount of time with it from a psychological and spiritual point of view (ie taking away from living life and actually finding someone you want to be with!)
The closet thing is a little more fascinating however . . . . .

There is no straight Scripture I can find that prevents masturbation.--so if you could possibly do it without bad thoughts...I can't see anything preventing it.
But not thinking dirty when you are doing it is much easier said than done...Many people have bad thoughts when they do it, that clearly are evil.
Masturbation shouldn't be singled out though as some 'more dirty sin'-- people ALSO have bad thoughts when they do not masturbate, and are married and go to work each day, for example. I wish I could count the number of times this probably has happened in one day to me at work...
Many popular modern "Christian" groups have gone on a witch hunt and use drugs, alchohol and sex as their witch to condemn, rather than read what the Bible actually says. AVOID SUCH GROUPS AS THESE, EVEN IF THEY ARE MAJOR DENOMINATIONS or 'reputable.' Priests and Pastors and some of my old Bible scholar 'friends' - very unfortunately, often are the ones leading this "witch hunt."
Jesus said "You hypocrite, you see the speck in your brother's eye but not the log in your own."

Impurity is also defined as a sin. Masturbation would be impurity as well as lust if you are thinking of anyone while doing it.
Evil thoughts are also defined as sin.
My encouragement would be to replace whatever longing you have with a relationship with God. Draw near to Him. The short term pleasure that you get from sin is not worth your soul and ultimately won't even satisfy you in this life

It would be difficult to not have wicked thoughts if you are masturbating. Plus, masturbation is hihly addictive and extremely hard to stop the habit of doing it often. Many religions do not condone it either.
As one of my clergy put it: Masturbation is "Sex with Self."

There is a verse, I forget where its at, but is says that a guy let his semen touch the soil and it angered god. Its better to put your seed in the belly of a whore than for it to hit the ground.
It was something like that.
But I don't believe in that. We all have urges.

Not only no sex before marriage, but sex only with the one you're married to .
For those who vow , " 'till death do us part ", that means "death , not divorce . To break a vow made in your God's name , is like crapping in his face .
I won't comment on masturbation , but , " Thou shalt not commit adultry " is quite direct .
