someone had a green light for the left turn lane and made a U turn and hit me when I was trying to turn right? My light was red. I made my stop looked and let off the brake. I was just about to hit the gas when this guy does a wide U-turn from the left turn lane. It doesn't say you can't do a U-turn, but it doesn't say you can either. I was already into my turn when their light turned green. Who would have been to blame if there WAS an accident?
Let me know if you need more details and I'll try to explain better. I really want to know the answer.

But am I @ fault if I was already turning before his light turned green, even though my light was red?

Keep in mind that "right-of-way" typically reigns supreme in making a fault determination...and from what you've outlined, he had the right-of-way.
But...he may have also had the last chance to avoid the collision...which can sometimes supersede "r-o-w" in assigning fault.
As for signage regarding "u-turns"...in most states (I'm not 100% sure about Ohio) it's similar to right-turns on red...if there's no sign prohibating it...it's allowed.
In a case like you've outlined...investigators would have to look at exactly what areas on the cars collided...the front bumper of his car striking the driver's side door of your car is completely different than the passenger side of HIS car being struck by the front of yours. IF there had been an accident this information would have likely been the determining factor.
Bottom line...until the cars actually collide...it's not always possible to assign blame.

You are at fault. Your light was red, even though you can legally turn right on red. But...you can only turn right on red when the way is clear. His U turn meant that the way was not clear, however. Him having the green light means he had the right of way.
Sorry. I know that's not the answer you were hoping for.

If it is not posted 'No U-Turn' then it is legal to make one. Just as if it is not posted 'No Right On Red' than it is legal to do so.
But, in this case, who ever has the red light MUST yield to other traffic. So, by law, if you are making a right turn on a red light at an intersection, you must do so by yielding to all traffic and with due care.
So, in the case you noted, you would be at fault.

Under most circumstances, it is illegal to make a u turn in an intersection . You were doing a legal maneuver. With evidence presented, I would say that you were not at fault. You were the one struck.
