My son has just found out his holiday to Turkey in November has been cancelled due to the war in Irac, something to do with our soldiers comming home i think. Have you had your holiday cancelled? What reason were you given? Thanks. x

may be it's Thanksgiving holiday that was cancelled in USA?

I wouldn't be surprised to see American refer to it as 'turkey holiday'

I work in a travel based call centre and deal with both new bookings and administration on existing bookings. We have had no such cancellations regarding the war in Iraq. I would suggest that your son goes back to his travel agent/tour operator and ask for the full reason of the cancellation, in writing.

There may be, at time to time, a need for tour operators to cancel bookings for various reasons; overbooking, rescheduling, flight cancellations, lack of demand but I have never heard of this reason that your son has been given and cannot see the relevance. You say he is going to Turkey. Turkey is open to tourism, although there is active terrorism in the country (like most nowadays!), the foreign office advice remains the same and still does not discourage people from travelling.

This sounds fishy to me. Sounds like the tour operator didn't have enough takers or discovered that the exchange rate was too great for them to make the profit they had planned. American soldiers have no routes through Turkey. I'd ask a lot of questions about this and be sure you get all your money back from the tour operator.

Sounds like this goup needs to blame someone else for their own problems. You might be thankful he's not traveling with such an operator.

War ???

We will make an operation to the terrorists with 5.000 soldiers. That's all . It will get 2 days only.

Who cancelled? The tour operator? What has anything got to do with American soldiers coming home?

I'm really trying to understand, but can't.
