YOU MUST NOT USE YOUR GOD-GIVEN BODY FOR KILLING GOD'S CREATURES, whether they are human, animal or whatever. - Yajur Veda Samhita 12.32
Hindus teach Vegetarianism as a way to live with a minimum of hurt to other beings, for to consume meat, fish, fowl or eggs is to participate indirectly in acts of cruelty and violence against the animal kingdom. The abhorrence of injury and killing of any kind leads quite naturally to a Vegetarian diet, shakahara.
The meat-eater's desire for meat drives another to kill and provide that meat. The act of the butcher begins with the desire of the consumer. Meat-eating contributes to a mentality of violence, for with the chemically complex meat ingested, one absorbs the slaughtered creature's feat, pain and terror. These qualities are nourished within the meat-eater, perpetuating the cycle of cruelty and confusion. When the individual's consciousness lifts and expands, he will abhor violence and not be able to even digest the meat, fish, fowl and eggs he was formerly consuming. India's greatest saints have confirmed that one cannot eat meat and live a peaceful, harmonious life. Man's appetite for meat inflicts devastating harm on the earth itself, destroying its precious forests to make away for pastures.
The Tirukural candidly states, 'How can he practice true compassion who eats the flesh of an animal to fatten his own flesh?
The Animal-Loving Voice of Scripture
Hindu scripture speaks clearly and forcefully on nonkilling and vegetarianism. The Yajur Veda summarily dictates: "Do not injure the beings living on the earth, in the air and in the water."
The beautiful Tirukural, a widely-read 2,000-year-old masterpiece of ethics, speaks of conscience: "When a man realizes that meat is the butchered flesh of another creature, he must abstain from eating it."
The Manu Dharma Shastra advises: "Having well considered toe origin of flesh and the cruelty of fettering and slaying of corporeal beings, let one entirely abstain from eating flesh."
In the yoga-infused verses of the Tirumantiram, warning is given of how meat-eating holds the mind in gross, adharmic states: "The ignoble ones who eat flesh, death's agents bind them fast and push them quick into the fiery jaws of Naraka, lower consciousness." The roots of noninjury, nonkilling and nonconsumption of meat are found in the Vedas, agamas, Upanishads, Dharma Shastras, Tirumurai, Yoga Sutras and dozens of other sacred texts of Hinduism.

Why forget the fruits and vegitables. These were also made by God. And if you are talking about vegetarianism, let me share the following facts with you...........
Scientifically both plants and animals are having one basic unit common i.e. cell.
It's contents are remarkably common except few like chlorophyl, centrosome, plastids, vacuoles etc. These cell constitute the whole body of an animal or a plant.
Now basic difference being its inability to create sound [ cry ] when broken /eaten /plucked, a plant or vegitable, can not make it eatable ethically and logically.
People eat vegitables just becoz they dont scream or cry. People drink milk which was actually meant for the calf and not for any other purpose. Where is their ethics ?
There may be a reason that blood of the killed animal makes them to have a guilty feeling, which is red and like ours becoz of hoemoglobin. But then the blood of plants, incidently not red, is as important as red blood.
We love to kill kockroaches just becoz they dont have red blood.
The canines are the teeth which are not found in Herbivorous
animals. The fact that canines are present in humen beings make it clear that humen are Omnivorous as the God meant us to be.
Now the animals whose life depends on filthy things and who eats dead animals are not holy & not eatable.
In Lord's view every thing is equal.
The only purpose of production of fruits in a plant is to survive and propagate it's kind, as God wanted. And not to fill your stomach.
Then why do we eat fruits & vegitables ?

the dietary laws in the old testament....animals that are clean and unclean...no they are not all the same in the Lord's view...
many of the unclean animals are the "clean up crew" for the environment....and that makes them unclean and unhealthy for our use....
vultures, hawks, clam, crab, lobster, pig, cat, rat, dog, there is a long list....read Leviticus and Deuteronomy....
this was not a "religious / kosher" practice per se only for the Hebrew and Jewish people.....we all have the same tummy.....
the dietary laws were not nailed to the cross with the ten commandments either....what would Jesus eat??? think about it.....
for what reason would the "menu" change at the cross??
look at all the health problems of today and then look at what those people have been eating for years.....
we can't seem to follow a simple healthy diet plan....we can't seem to follow 10 simple commandments...
and we blame God when we get sick.....

ALLAH is very particular about what kind of food we eat as it has an impact on our body and consequently mind. also if you notice carefully, all the animals which ALLAH has allowed us to eat are herbivores with a clean pattern of diet, islam does not permit eating of carnivorous animals. As far as PIG is concerned, no matter how much the christians deny it, it is a truth that pigs feed on filthy and dirty stuff which involves human and animal excrete. there is this mushy area behind my house, fortunately, my window does'nt face that place but whenever we pass by the main road we can see it. there are loads of pigs and hoars there and i know what they feed on. ALLAH gives utmost importance to what and how much goes inside our body as it has it's share of side effects on our body and mind. if islam permits eating of red and white meat, it should be in a controlled quantity contrary to what a lot of people like to believe. you are right, all animals are made by ALLAH and precisely that is why HE knows which is best for eating and which is not. Consider what ALLAH has mentioned in QURAAN in ch36, v71, 72 & 73, " 71. See they not that it is We Who have created for them - among the things which Our hands have fashioned - cattle¸ which are under their dominion?-72. And that We have subjected them to their (use)? of them some do carry them and some they eat: 73. And they have (other) profits from them (besides)¸ and they get (milk) to drink. Will they not then be grateful?"

ingesting meat or being a vegetarian or leaving out some kinds of meat is predicated upon some religious ideals and there could be logical valid motives for such ideals, that desires to be studied in a historic context. yet final a vegetarian could be suitable for human beings, in common terms at Geographical places the place the vegetarian supplies of nourishment are no longer freely or abusndantly obtainable could desire to meat ingesting be generic greater as a necessity particularly than a decision.

Dear brother, therz a small correction in yur question. like you should have made it as lawful and unlawful instead holy and unholy. And coming to the answer, let us analyse what is actually forbidden by the one Almighty for our mankind. Allah says in Quran:
"He (Allah) has forbidden you only the Maytatah (dead animals), and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that which is slaughtered as a scrifice for others than Allah (or has been slaughtered for idols, etc., on which Allahs Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity without wilful disobedience nor transgressing due limits, then there is no sin on him. Truly, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
( سورة البقرة , Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #173)
Very clear hah ? For ex let us take up the case of swine and scientifically why pig is prohibitted.
3. Consumption of pork causes several diseases
The other non-Muslims and atheists will agree only if convinced through reason, logic and science. Eating of pork can cause no less than seventy different types of diseases. A person can have various helminthes like roundworm, pinworm, hookworm, etc. One of the most dangerous is Taenia Solium, which is in lay man’s terminology called tapeworm. It harbours in the intestine and is very long. Its ova i.e. eggs, enter the blood stream and can reach almost all the organs of the body. If it enters the brain it can cause memory loss. If it enters the heart it can cause heart attack, if it enters the eye it can cause blindness, if it enters the liver it can cause liver damage. It can damage almost all the organs of the body.
Another dangerous helminthes is Trichura Tichurasis. A common misconception about pork is that if it is cooked well, these ova die. In a research project undertaken in America, it was found that out of twenty-four people suffering from Trichura Tichurasis, twenty two had cooked the pork very well. This indicates that the ova present in the pork do not die under normal cooking temperature.
4. Pork has fat building material
Pork has very little muscle building material and contains excess of fat. This fat gets deposited in the vessels and can cause hypertension and heart attack. It is not surprising that over 50% of Americans suffer from hypertension.
5. Pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth
The pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth. It lives and thrives on muck, faeces and dirt. It is the best scavenger that I know that God has produced. In the villages they don’t have modern toilets and the villagers excrete in the open air. Very often excreta is cleared by pigs.
Some may argue that in advanced countries like Australia, pigs are bred in very clean and hygienic conditions. Even in these hygienic conditions the pigs are kept together in sties. No matter how hard you try to keep them clean they are filthy by nature. They eat and enjoy their own as well as their neighbour’s excreta.
6. Pig is the most shameless animal
The pig is the most shameless animal on the face of the earth. It is the only animal that invites its friends to have sex with its mate. In America, most people consume pork. Many times after dance parties, they have swapping of wives; i.e. many say "you sleep with my wife and I will sleep with your wife." If you eat pigs then you behave like pigs. We Indians look upon America to be very advanced and sophisticated. Whatever they do, we follow after a few years. According to an article in Island magazine, this practice of swapping wives has become common in the affluent circles of Bombay.
But as previsously mentioned in above verse, if one faces a worse situation like he is left alone in forest with only option of consuming swine else he will die...then he could very well have it to save his life because..."Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful".
