Here is a quick statement of why...
Most LDS (This stands for Latter Day Saint, That's what they like to call themselves) won't tell you what the Church believes because it is so bizarre. These strange beliefs are the reason mainline Christians Churches say that Mormonism is a non-christian cult. In the next paragraph I will tell you what they believe and add what the Bible teaches on the subject where appropriate.
Mormons teach that our god is a glorified man. A being of flesh and bone. The Bible makes it very clear that God is spirit. The Mormon god stated out in the great expanse of uncreated space. There in the darkness of a pre-spiritual existence, god the father, Jesus, you, and I will there all equal and co-eternal. Then a god had sexual intercourse with one of his wives and our god was given a spiritual body. He happened to be the first born of this god so he became the savior of this god's world just like Jesus is for our world. He lived, and taught Mormonism to those who would listen to mine. He died just like Jesus did here and if others on that world would repent and be baptized by the Mormon priest there and live to the end of their lives in righteousness they were allow to return to their god. If they didn't measure up they were assigned to other kingdoms that that god has created for them. Kingdoms overseen by their savior (who became our god) and another valiant spirit that was given the office of holy ghost. (What do you think, is this getting complex?) After the end of the world that our god did his mortal ministry on, he was given many worthy females at he could have sex with and thereby create spirit children (us) to send to a world that he created. Oh, by the way these worlds weren't really created they were organized out of the matter available in space (matter is co-eternal with god and can't be created or destroyed). Jesus was the first born of our god and Lucifer the second born (who became the devil). Can you believe this Mormons don't just say that Jesus is our spiritual brother but also he and we are brothers of Satan. Lucifer wanted to force us all to be good and bring us all back to god Jesus wanted to give us freedom to make our own decision. Jesus won this battle and became god the son. Well Mormons believe this process is repeated again and again. It is their goal to live a perfect life through their first principles of their gospel they are:
1. Faith in the Mormon Jesus
2. Baptism by immersion (Done only by their priests)
3. Laying on of hands for the gift of the Mormon Holy Ghost ( Done only by their elders)
4. Repentance ( You have to repent of every sin you commit, You better have a good memory)
5. Enduring to the end of your life in righteousness. Go to step 4 each time to you sin.
Along with this there is marriage in the Mormon temple (You can't become a god without being married). Everyone is also asked to pay a full tithe (Ok they got one thing right) and do volunteer service for the church (They have no paid ministry. That isn't bad either but someone should tell them that pastoring a local christian church is a full time and a half job and it doesn't pay well at all. Men and women that do it are called of God No one would go into that kind of work on their own..

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!!
Jim B: I have to admit you are very good at twisting words and doctrine. your info, although somewhat accurate has been extremely lamely explained. you make it sound blunt and bizzare, yet you fail to gain the real knowledge of what we believe. ask a mormon you know to read over what you have posted and they can explain to you why things are that way and how you are wrong. Or maybe you are to proud to do that and admit your wrong?
Trooper7: this has to be the STUPIDEST thing i've ever heard. either you or your friend is a really bad liar. You honestly believe the church would KILL a member for leaving?? are you feeling okay? cuz that's really the dumbest thing i've heard. Maybe you haven't heard of the 11th article of faith: "we claim the privilege of worshipping almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience and allow all men the same privilege; Let them worship how, where, or what they may." Either you or your friend should get a life.
Technoma: you have a very warped view of the church. Maybe you should take your own advice and actually READ the book of Mormon eh?? cuz if you did, you'd know you are very mislead. Sure, you can take as much stuff out of context as you want twist it to satisfy your arguement, but, you know, that doesn't really change the truth now does it?
Crimthan: we very much do highly revere, respect, believe in, and follow God and His son Jesus Christ. where would you get the idea we wouldn't?? also, we do not hold the Book of Mormon ABOVE the Bible. they are both very impotant scriptures. one is just a record of what took place in the Americas while the Bible covers what was going on where Christ was. They teach the same principles, and very much compliment each other. they are both truth. we do not esteem any above the other, although yes, we are taught to study it more often, but only so we can gain a better testimony of it. seems smart though. it's probably harder for saints to carry a testimony of the BoM rather than a book much of the other religions already believe in also... its just a way to help us.
Truth is Truth. Why are people not Mormons?? lack of information. If everyone would take the time to learn more about it and what the church is about, i'm sure many people's views would change. they would learn that its not bizarre or way abnormal. it's a restoration of CHRIST'S church.
It's the church that holds all of the truths on the Earth today. When you understand what the church is about, you learn so much truth that it's hard to disregard it, cuz you just know it's true.
go to Mormon.org if you want to know more.

I quit the LDS church BECAUSE I believe in the Book of Mormon. Have you ever read it? It teaches Biblical Christianity and bears little resemblence to the Utah LDS church. LDS doctrines that are not only utterly absent in the Book of Mormon but even taught strongly against:
1. Polygamy, BoM says it is an abomination and whoredom
2. Racism, dark skinned folks held the priesthood like Samuel
3. Celestial Marriage
4. Baptism for the Dead,
5. Celestial Marriage for the Dead
6. 1st President
7. High Priests for the New Testament era
8. Water for the Sacrament
9. a Changing God
10. Changing scriptures
The Book of Mormon never teaches these core LDS doctrines and strongly opposes them and other LDS beliefs. I find it strange that here am I, an ex-Mormon, trying to convince Mormons to believe in their own Book of Mormons. The LDS have discredited the Book of Mormon much in the same manner how the Catholics have discredited the Bible. If you want to belong to a church that is much closer to the ancient prophet Mormon's religion, which is Christianity, check out:

I like the religion, it has a lot of great ideas.. but it lacks evidence. But I attend a local ward from time to time, read the BoM and like to discuss Mormonism with Mormons. I just don't have the faith that you do, don't take it personal though.. I am an atheist.

Martin S. said:
"Because I don't follow a false prophet and I don't follow the RIDICULOUS teaching that God who created all of this universe was once a man or that Jesus, the eternal Son of God is a "spirit brother" of Satan." (capitalization mine).
Sorry Martin S. But you have lost my respect now.
I once revered you as an objective critic of the LDS church, but now that you've let your "encultured bias" (as sociology calls it) you are now lumped with the fanatics like Oregon Flower.
Daniel F: I thought Unitarian Universalists teach tolerance of other religions. I bet there are some Mormons in your congregation. How dare you call Mormons Morons.
Doesn't that go against your Urine-arian.... ER I MEAN..... Unitarian beliefs... (You see, not just 2 year olds can play stupid word games).

I believe in God and his son Jesus. Two things Mormons seem not to understand. Also I am against adding false text to the Bible let alone making another book, then placing that book above the Bible. Baptism is also not an act another can do for a sinner, nor is it essential for salvation. (I belive in it and see its importance) I am sure I could pick it apart more, but I think that is more than enough to show it for what it is and that is a cult.

Quite simply, I had a look at the history and teachings of the church. It is not possible to be a member of the church knowing the things the church believes but does not tell people that study with them:
-Adam is God
-Kolob
-baptism washes away sins
-false prophecies.

Simple, I was not brought up in a Mormon family situation, being spoon fed scripture on a daily basis as I grew up...
I classify that, as a form of child abuse...
I was able to make my own choices in life, and never did religion play a part, even though I know that my Mum believed in the Christian God..
I am a Wiccan, and my Mum thought that I just believed in "that hippie sh!t", whatever she thought that was!!
Blessed Be... )O(

Because I do not hold with it's teachings. Doesn't mean I think you should not be a mormon or that your faith is not valid, it simply isn't the path I walk.
