It disturbs me deeply.
It separates us and polarizes us far more than it brings people together.
With all of the judgmental nonsense that it seems to promote it often seems more like an insult to God than a way of connecting with God.
Love and blessings Don

Good question!
On a personal level - I suppose the main things my religion Christianity does for me - fills me with an inexplicable peace and calm, a feeling no a knowledge that everything will be OK no matter what particular circumstance I am in at the moment.
Then secondly - my religion has given me a very grateful, appreciative heart. I am more cognizant of all the things I have to be thankful for each day, and in turn all the gratitude seems to help me maintain a very positive attitude - again no matter what I may be going through.
Otherwise maybe outwardly no one would have noticed a difference in me - but inside, in my heart - to be filled with this peace and thanksgiving - WOW, what a true blessing!
Thanks for asking!!

It's hard for me to say that "religion" does anything because most people have made it so difficult to claim yourself as a specific follower..- in other words, I can't really say that I'm "Christian" because I don't annoy the heck out of everyone who is different from me.
But I DO believe in God and I love nature and I respect all that God provides for me. This... "belief system" inspires me to constantly be wary of the world around me, to always be curious and ask questions about life. I love learning new things, especially about other religions and what other people think. Christianity does NOT assure me that different followers are going to Hell. In fact, I'll be the first to argue about what a true 'Hell' is in the first place. However, Christianity does assure me that there is always someone to answer my questions and that my inspiration (God) will always be there for me.
Heh, I guess you can say that I'm not your 'average' Christian...

Two criminals condemned on the same morning to hang the next.
All night long both tell jokes and laugh and play cards and both would appear as happy and as carefree as possible.
The next day, one is hanged and the other goes free because that previous evening, the governor had pardoned the one and the next morning, he went free.
The criminal who died shows how easy the human mind can be distracted and kept busy from thinking about death and about the meaning of existence. A few jokes and some card games was all it took.
I thank God that I'm the one who went free.

Religion doesn't do much for me.
Jesus does.
God makes me feel protected. My daddy was very strict. I had to walk a thin, straight line. God is not like that.
I was scared of my parents. but with God I feel safe.
Jesus loves me no matter what.
He makes me want to be lke He is.
Knowing that God is with me gives me courage.
Knowing that I will always be loved makes me feel secure.
I also want to do my best to please God because He loves me so mcuh.
