You are right in saying he was fictional. There are so many contradictions in the Bible's accounts of him that he probably never really lived. One part says he was born in the reign of Herod who died in 4 BC, while another says he was born during Quirinius' census of 7 AD. Christians say He is both the Messiah and the son of God. The Messiah was to be descended from David. Two Bible genealogies say Joseph was 28 or 41 in line from David, but if Joseph was not Jesus' father, Jesus cannot be the Messiah. Jesus said several times that he would soon return. He said it would be while some people hearing his sermon were still alive. That is wrong indeed. Historians of the time Jesus supposedly lived (if we can establish that with 11 years difference in accounts of his birth date) do not mention him. He appears long after that and is surely hearsay. Some find he was added to such histories as Flavius Josephus' long after Josephus died.

Matthew 24:6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not disturbed; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 But all these things are the beginning of sorrows.
Matthew 24:24 For false christs and false prophets will be raised up, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you in advance. 26 Therefore if they should say to you, 'Look, He is in the desert!' do not go out; or 'Look, He is in the inner rooms!' do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes out from the east and flashes to the west, so shall also be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 For wherever the carcass may be, there the eagles will be gathered together.
29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give its light; and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

I have news for you: scholars agree that Jesus was a historical person. I know people find it convenient to call him a myth, but what's convenient is not always the truth.
This is from a website I believe to be trustworthy:
Most scholars believe that a real, flesh and blood Jewish peasant whom we call Jesus lived and taught in first-century Galilee.
From: http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/james_still/jesus_search.html
Also, Jesus never said when he was coming back. He did something astonishing though when he described the end of the world in a way that makes it seem he had a knowledge of astronomy that was way beyond his times:
Matthew 24:29 "Immediately after the distress of those days
" 'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken

Before the other fictional characters in the book died. Obviously the author had some continuity problems. Or possibly he died before the story was finished.
"Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." Matthew 16:28
mortgagegirl101, scientific evidence that Jesus was real? I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for this one.
batgirl2good, maturity is not marked by ones ability to accept the delusions of others. That's actually called immaturity.

Even if you fail to believe He was and is the great I Am, you would still have surely heard that there has indeed been scientific evidence to have at least made Him real and not purely fictional hype. And He did not give a time nor place. He simply said He would come at the hour appointed by the Father and that He would come as a theif in the night. I have yet to meet a theif that would tell you when he was coming to your house to rob you.

In the same generation. Guess he is running a little late.
Mark 9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
Luke 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
Mark 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Matthew 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Matthew 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
