Even if it is "out of hours", Vets are legally bound to have 24 hour cover.
I live on a road which has a private school at the bottom and the RSPCA refuse to re-home rescue cats in this road unless you guarantee that your cat will be a house cat; so many have been killed and badly injured here because of all the traffic.
I have taken on 3 for them and they never go outside - have you thought of it as a possiblity?

I live by a busy road and have had two cats and even found a stray cat next to my house, who wasn't so lucky.
If you've just moved into the area, keep your cat in for a month or so. After that, do let your cat out , maybe under your supervision at first to see whether it is road-safe. Remember, that is the cat is safe, let it out! It would be cruel not to be!!!

Obsviously, phone a vet IMMEDIATELY!!! Keep the number with you at all times, you never know when you might need it. And remember, if you're cat is in real pain, think about what is fair.

We don't believe you're asking this question however phone a vet!
Being new to the area? Whats next on your list for moving house? Look up the practices in the phone book & get your cat registered; don't wait until there is an emergency.
Is your cat street/road wise? If you live near a busy road we would be inclined to keep the cat indoors and NO it's not cruel.

You must phone a vet asap. Also if you have to move the cat you must be very careful. You should move the cat using a strecher in order to avoid as little movement as possible. You will have to improvise - perhaps using cardboard etc.

If you live near a busy road then you should consider keeping your cat indoors. If you decide to do this you could create an outdoor activity enclosure for your cat so its can still enjoy the outdoors.

First you need to call the vet ASAP. Suggestion: if you live near a busy street, why take the chances to let your cat out?

My suggestions is that if just moved, and you're really that worried, keep your cat inside! The cat will not know the area, and if you keep it inside there will be no possibility of it getting run over.

One of my favorite sayings about cats is "Better to be kept inside and fat, than outside and flat". :-)

If you still insist on leaving your cat outdoors, research the vets in your area to find out who has after-hour emergency hours, as well as Veterinary hospitals.

I would probably have a cell phone on hand, and be calling an emergency vet *If my vet is not open* and tell them that I'm coming in and explain the situation so get your **** ready!!!

That is what I would be doing...

I've also had cats killed by traffic, so now I always keep them in and if they go out it's with my supervision...A harness and a leash..

Phone the vet, or take her to the vets as soon as you can. If your cat gets bumped by a car she could have internal problems from the impact and will need to be checked as soon as you can get her to any help.

Call the vet of course. I always keep the vets number on the fridge and the emergency/after hours number as well. I have to ask though, why is the cat going outside? It is far to dangerous for cats to be outdoors. As you are aware, they can be hit by a car, but also can be attacked by vermin, and catch diseases from other cats such as AIDS, leukemia, distemper, etc. Keep the cat indoors...buy it toys, corregated scratching bed, catnip, etc.
