Yep. And those lazy people who can't put the shopping carts back when they're done. I don't really think there is anything we can do about it, just park as far away from everyone as you can. I use to get really upset about it, but i've learned you have no control over stupid people :-)

YES, I hate it! My car didn't have a single blemish. I was planning to get a new one when I finished the note, next August. Then I moved into an apartment complex where the neighbors do exactly what you said all the time. I now have three very visable dents!
The police don't care. It's cosmetic. I'm sure my resale value has dropped considerably even though I less than 50K miles on the car.
Now I park in a remote section of the lot, about a half a block away from my apartment. Inconvenient, but I won't get any more dings and dents. I do the same when shopping now too. People are just inconsiderate.

I use paintless dent repair for door dents and pay approx. $40.00 per dent If some one dents my 2006 car I know because it is the only dent on that side I will wait until numbskull comes back to there car or confront them on the spot. "hey who's going to pay me for this dent you made in my door?" Police will not show up on private property for a 40 dollar dent. Old dirty cars that are not shiny anymore get hit more often. AND it does not matter where you park. I used to park a long ways away and when I came back out some one broke my side window out to steal things. And have you ever noticed you can be the only car a mile away and then some one parks next to you and dents your door? You cannot win the door dent game!

I have the exact same problem with people. I park as far away from other people, and it still gets dented mostly on the rear passenger side door. I got so sick of this, I got my car alarm made ultra-sensitive so when somebody taps the car, the alarm goes off, they feel that they don't want to just leave your car their with the alarm going off. It has worked well so far.
The cos probably won't come for something so minor, if he just drove off, you could report him hit and run.

I hate it, so I park my car in the far reaches of the parking lots. I figure it's good exercise to walk the few extra steps.
I don't think cops will respond to this kind of property damage. It's too low on their list of priorities - they might be on temporary duty at the donut shop.
