Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Exodus 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

Exodus 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Here is what the law concerning the Sabbath was pointing to.
Here is the fulfillment of that law.

Shabbat-Sabbath
Shalom-Rest

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and [ I will give you rest.]

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and [ ye shall find rest unto your souls.]

Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Today Christians observe Sunday as the Sabbath.
Why?
1.It is the "Lords day" Revelations 1:10,the day that the Lord reserected.
2.It was the day that the Holy Ghost was poured out, Act 2:1 "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place".
Pentecost: Fifty or Seven Sabbaths plus one day equals Sunday.

Note this doctrine was not changed by the catholic church. It was in practice way before there was a catholic church.
3. Acts 20:7 "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight".

Christians hold the first day of the week as the Lord's day, and set it apart for Him. That has been done for almost 2000 years now, even in Bible days after the church was started. The sabbathe rest for a Christian is a spiritual term now meaning to rest in Jesus' finished work.
Hebrews 4:9 "So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God."
Even with the Jewish people, Saturday was a sabbath, but not all sabbaths were saturday. There were a number of sabbath (rest days) connected with feasts that were not on Saturday.

Judy, personally I agree with 'oldguy63' and 'Don S.'

Romans 14:5 One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord.

I know that Jewish customs concider some Saturdays as Shabbat, (as do some other "Christian" religions as well)
But for me ALL days are "Sacred"/Special, because they are a gift from God, to me...that I may Honor Him with my LIfe.

May you continue to be blessed!

Jesus is my Shabbat and He is Today. (Hebrews 4:7-11, although contextually, it's Hebrews 3-5:1)

Jesus said man wasn't made for the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for man. Because man will work you to death. Put you in a hole. And work the next guy to death. Sabbath is a break from the grind of the material world, and a chance for us to rest and comtemplate spiritual things. The day is just another means for evil to get ignorant people to argue.

The Old Testemant law is just the schoolmaster and the shadow for the thing to come (Heb. 10). Paul in Galatian wrote about this at length, that it is no longer relevant to observe days, weeks, traditions and circumcisions.

Nevertheless, that does not mean that we done away with these laws, becuase God's Word shall never pass away and must be fulfilled. God never abolish the Old Testement's law. He does not make mistake. These law should now be fulfilled in Jesus Christ, by faith. So, the rest is not a day, but now in Christ - 'Come all ye heavy laden and learn of My way... I will give you rest' as He said in Matthew. In fact, the Holy Ghost is the rest. (Jn 14:27). Similarly, we do not need to offer various animal offerings as in the Old Testement, but this has already accomplished in Christ. (Heb 10:10)

The Old Testement Laws no longer consist of dead rituals, but living one, in Christ (Rom. 8).

None.
Sabbath was a law in the Jewish system.
If one is not Jewish, why follow the laws of another nation?
Besides, Jesus put an end to those laws .....Romans 10:4.
Christians are not under obligation to have one particular day supposedly "holier" than the others.
Every day counts.
