The past year or two, I have slowly gotten into this slump where I very rarely leave the house except for work (once a week), lost contact with my friends apart from online, lost care for alot of things. As of late, I feel as if all of this is coming back to haunt me. I feel fatigued, depressed, lack of interest in everything, worthless. I am extremely nervous in everyday social situations, my parents are the only people I feel comfortable being myself with. When I go out, I feel as if I am constantly being evaluated by other people. I never used to be like this.

I have always been a solo type of person who, although attracts others by being funny, still prefers company of self. I never have any motivation or energy anymore, lately I've been trying hard not to break down and cry all the time, I'm sensitive to noise, and get upset over small things. I haven't told anyone really, does anybody know what's going on and why this is happening?... and maybe what to do?

Went through this myself and was diagnosed bipolar. My down periods last a very long time and it was at first thought to be just depression. Go to a mental health professional (i prefer psychiatrists because they can prescribe meds) and get an evaluation. Could be depression or something more. Please don't let this be your life--it took me a long time to get help and I missed a lot of things because of it.

You don’t tell how old you are. Although what you describe may be depression (or what is often diagnosed as depression). You might and should start with a complete medical exam. No competent mental health professional would make a diagnoses without a medical exam first since many medical problems can cause the same problems. Did you have any injuries two years ago. Auto, sports, etc. Any other changes in your life. Going through puberty? Drug use? Many things to consider before a valid diagnosis could be made.

Good luck

I feel a little relieved reading your experiencing , thinking that I am not the only one suffering from this . I also have been having this social phobia condition , secluded life , weirdness in public places etc . I usd to talk to my friends in younger day over the phone , but nowadays I hardly do that and I cant even be funny at times with my friends ( at least you are better in that sense) .
My advise is to probably do some meditation and yoga techniques and also find a good hobby to make friends . While former increases your energy level , latter can help you spent time on something you like .Once in a while when you are in a good mood , ring up your friends .
Thanks and good luck .

well i think that you are going trough some type of depression due to maybe stress or over something that has happend and you are finding very hard to get over so by self- seclusion you find that maybe its better because you dont have to put up with the world and its people which is why when you do go out into a social situation you feel that people are talking about you or looking at you simply because your defenses are up see there is such a thing as social phobia and its very common many people hate being in social situations or are scared or simply feel threatend the solution to it maybe a psychologist and if necessary antidepressants can help relax you and make you feel at ease in social situations.

You have all the classic signs of clinical depression. Best thing to do is get to either a therapist, or a medical doctor, or both. Clinical depression is successfully treated with medication (Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro---something like that) over a 6-12 month period. If you have access to talk therapy, using it with medication is good. If you can only do one or the other though, go for the meds. Studies have shown that the BEST method is to combine medicine with therapy, then the next best is medicine alone, then the 3rd best is just therapy.

I can relate to all that you stated at least your not alone in that sense. I don't know what it is but I think if you find something that you're good at your self esteem/confidence will increase and you'll in turn feel more sociable and happier + energetic.
If there's a term for this or if it's just classed as depression I'd like to know as well
