Seasonal fruits are best. Honey-crisp apples are excellent right now. Go outside the norm and maybe add walnuts or dried cherries. Also some veggies work well like celery or sugar peas. Also, don't forget lemon juice to keep the fruit looking fresh. Just toss. Or lime if your wicked.

Also, make a simple compote from frozen or imported fruit the day before and toss with the fresh fruit just before serving. Look for simple compote recipes on-line at sites such as recipes.com.....

If you add banana to a fruit salad, do it at the very moment because it will discolour and not look too nice.
I make the liquid with a mixture of fresh orange juice and a white wine such as chardonnay.
If children are eating it, leave out the wine, on second thoughts, don't. A bowl of fresh fruit salad and they be wanting their beds!.

As everybody else has already covered the fruit, let me give you another little fruit salad tip (for adults only):

Add a glass of Grand Marnier (or another fruit liqueur if you prefer, Amaretto can be nice too) about half an hour before serving and mix well. Give the fruit salad a little bite. ;P

Fresh Fruit Salad

This fruit salad combines chopped peaches, strawberries, bananas, and red and green grapes, dressed with a simple fresh lime and pineapple juice dressing.
INGREDIENTS:
6 peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped
1 pound strawberries, rinsed, hulled, and sliced
1/2 pound seedless green grapes
1/2 pound seedless red grapes
3 bananas, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar, or less, to taste
.
Dressing:
juice of one lime
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1 teaspoon ground ginger
PREPARATION:
Combine chopped and sliced fruits in a large serving bowl; toss gently. Sprinkle with sugar. Whisk together remaining ingredients in a small bowl or 1 cup measure. Pour dressing mixture over fruit and toss gently to combine.

Cover and chill the fruit salad thoroughly before serving.
This fruit salad recipe makes enough to serve about 10 to 12 people.

Peaches, pears, bananas, grapes and pineapple make a wonderful salad...especially with a custard made from the pineapple juice if it's canned pineapple. If melons are still in season, they're really good also combined with berries.

The nicest fruit salad I've had was in Turkey. It had orange pieces, pear, peach, cherries & apple pieces without the skin. but they warm it up and serve with a dollop of vanilla icecream.

add nuts to your fruit salad only if you consider nuts to be fruit, and only if no one in the group is allergic. apples, cantelope, orange, watermelon, bananas, raisins. if you like the fruit dip that is sold in stores, you might want to try this also--1 pkg. of cream cheese and a jar of marshmellow fluff (cream) put them in a bowl together and whip them up. it is great and you will have a lot and save money too! bon appetite!
