well its because people are ignorant of what they dont know. for instance Joseph Smith found the Gold Plates but nobody seen them (bar a handful of witnesses). Also the LDS have Temples, this leads me to one of the most absurd theories, people claim these Temples to be Satanic and Evil.
These Temples are actually there for helping the work after death and they are nothing to do with Satan. Thus people become ignorant and decide to make up stuff and then a legion of people believe in it.
Now i am not LDS but i can stand back and see all the good this Church does. It gets nothing but bad press in the media and whatnot. But i see a Church equal to other religions, that help the poor and rich, the ill and infirm, i see the charity work thats done.
i see no harm in the LDS religion, at the end of the day you do what makes you feel good.
hope this helps :)

I'm sure that the Mormons would be happy to answer your criticisms as would all the other religions in the world if given the chance. Don't listen to those who are bigotted enough to force the belief that 'their way is the only way' and only they are right. These people usually keep their congregations together and under their control by instilling fear. I like to think that an All loving God looks to the heart of ALL the differing believers in the world. After all, there is no religion higher than truth.

All religions are picked on all the time, not only LDS.
I don't believe in Mormonism. I appreciate their family values, their morals, etc... the best neighbors I've ever had are LDS. My son attends a Mormon cub scout group.
If you're planning on becoming a member I suggest you make an informed decision. Don't base your decision only on the "warmth in the bosom" (or something like that). Read about the history, their internal organization.... Talk to members that were not born LDS. Talk to ex-members that were born LDS.
Good luck!

All religions get "picked on" in one way or another. With Mormons, it tends to be because they have some very particular/unique beliefs about the origins and significance of the Book of Mormon. There is plenty of information both for and against it on the web, start researching with Wikipedia or something similarly general and objective.
Remember that joining a religion is a big deal, only join if you truly believe in the religion in all aspects, don't just join because they helped you and you feel like you need to "pay them back". Respect their religions by treating them seriously and comprehensively.

The Mormon church does many many good things for families in need across the country (I'm not one, but I'm also not an ***). Most of the time people don't know this about them and just jump to conclusion that they are a bunch of bible thumping crazies, knocking on peoples' doors all the time... If you really believe in something it shouldn't matter what other people think.

They have some non-standard beliefs that allows the other sects to slam them as heretical or claims of being a "cult" . . . in reality they seem like pretty normal conservative Christians. Talk to a Bishop and ask your questions if interested and judge for yourself.

everyone gets picked on. We get picked on cuase people say "we're brain washed" "We're a cult" "joesph smith was a liar"
Well by their fruits shall ye know them for good or evil right.
Read the book of mormon, Pray about it. cuase the only person who can truely tell you if its of god is God himself right? So instead of looking for all our wisdom here with the tossed and turned opinions, go directly to the source.
I am LDS, and I have asked god if it is the truth. The answer I recieved was yes. But I can't and won't tell you, you should be one to, cuase thats up to you.
But pray about it, you wont regrett it.

We get picked on because of what we stand for.
Our doctrine may be different, but that doesn't render us as spawn of Satan.
There are tub-thumpers in all religions so I guess we're not alone.
A word to the wise, or those who wish to become so:
Except ye become as a little child, you can in no wise inherit the kingdom. Be ye perfect even as the Father which is in heaven is perfect - it is important to keep on trying.
If at first you don't succeed, try again.

All religions get picked on. I am Muslim and I deal with it as well. Stay strong, follow your heart and be happy. There will always be critics. Peace.
