Cmos is newer technology than Ccd. Eventhough its new, many people prefer ccd better than cmos. It depends i guess not only on the lens but also the camcorder. New camcorders for Sony tend to have cmos.

CMOS has Rolling Shutter Distortion, CCD does not.

RCA invented what is generically known as the CCD imager. RCA also holds the trademark for CMOS and MOS so that is what they called their imager. As they licensed the technology to other companies, they also licensed the term CMOS and MOS for the imager. Companies without an RCA license have to use the generic term CCD.
