Hi Precious..

Look.. don't take this the worng way but I'm gonna go to town on you here.. only because I WANT you to get on that stage!!

I read what you wrote and the problem is a critical one.. it is so serious already that it may cause you total failure ALL your life!!

I'm telling you this as a producer who works with teenagers. I own and run my own studio and play numerous instruments and also sing.. so I'm speaking from experience.

So here's the problem.. the reason you are SHY is because your EGO has raised the bar too high for you, and your SHYNESS is actually a cover for FEAR!

See, you BELIEVE you have a terrific voice.. you wrote that. Well.. so do many many many MANY unknowns.. just like many beggars are among the most intelligent people in society.. they end up never being heard! You risk this fate.

Now, get on that damn stage and give it your best shot, because until you do.. YOU HAVE NO VOICE!! Until you get on that stage.. you are no different to every other teen on earth who reckons they have a gift!!

So which are you gonna be.. the old dreamer who tells his kids "I could have been huge" .. or are you gonna tell your kids " I had a go and I became HUGE" ???

The choice now rests in your hands.. good luck

I can so understand where you're coming from. And I partially agree with the guy who posted right before me. You've gotta have the COURAGE to get out there. Your friends and family have heard you sing right. They've affirmed your abilities. There should be no doubt in your mind whether or not you can do it. The question is whether or not you WILL do it!
The fear of failure is what holds so many people back in their dreams. But failure isn't the end. If you fall off the horse, and never get back on, how on earth are you gonna win that racing medal? Okay, weird metaphor, but you get the idea.
Realistically, your performance could (note that I don't know you and am totally assuming here) be less than stellar. But if you take that experience and never get on a stage again, you'll never get over that stage fright/shyness. The people you love and who believe in you will be cheering you on all the way. You don't need to impress them. You'll make them so proud of you by overcoming this shyness and doing it anyways.
Off the encouragement track for a sec... Practice really really helps too. Me and a few guy friends were doing a performance of the Relient K song 'Getting Into You', and we only practiced like twice before the big night. It wasn't bad, but I had to keep switching between my 'alto voice' and my 'soprano voice'. Not cool. Practice the song. If it's not a good one for your range, pick something different.
One last word. Go into this with all your enthusiasm and heart.
"Be what you want to be, and say what you want to say, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Suess
Hope I helped! =)

It's a vision thing. You have to vision yourself singing each part, like what face you want to make, what you want to do with the mike cord/stand, where you want to move, all of it....so when the show gets underway you're not guessing anything.

Direct preparation overcomes that fear of failure.

i know exactly what you are saying...i have a GREAT singing voice..i am sure i am older lol...back in the 70's i used to sing for quarters in the bar.....just to play another song to sing to....however in chorus i was chosen to sing a solo on arbor day in front of the whole town...and totally froze...granted i was in the 3rd grade in front of like 5 thousand people...who wouldn't freeze...soon after i stopped singing...except in the shower..i always had a radio in the bathroom when i showered and the whole family would listen to me sing....and to this day my voice is great..and still sing in the shower...lol...you just got to say screw it...i am good at something...and this is what it is...have you ever noticed how many lead singers sing w/ their eyes closed...it could be due to concentration to shyness who knows....just close your eyes...and do what you do best....eddie vedder does it...lead singer of pearl jam...my god lol...have seen the lead singer of maroon 5 do it too...fret none...just do what you do best...shyness is all in your head..remember...mind over matter....best of luck

Do it. Who cares if you humiliate yourself in front of everyone you know?
