i have the money for either one. But i love the class and luxury of a mercedes benz. but my friend wants me to geet the lancer evo.. i did a lot of research and it seems that the lancer evo got nothing except a very expensive engine and turbo, none of the comfort that any luxury car provided. plus if i were to drive fast. would it be that big a difference in speed to floor a mercedes and a lancer evo? it just doesn't seem to matter that much if you are not a street-racer..which i hate...to get a lancer evo. Any opinion??

If you prefer the Mercedes then why are you even considering the Lancer Evo? The car is for you, not your friend so it should be you that decides what to get.

In terms of acceleration the V6 in the Mercedes will do quite well and if you won't be breaking the law you aren't really going to care which one is faster, I'd also expect the Mercedes to provide torque lower down so you wouldn't need to rev it as much for the same power output.

If you've got the money to buy one and the money to maintain (both would cost more than average to maintain since one is a prestige car and the other has a turbo) and fuel them then you should do pretty well (provided you get a good one).

As Bill W notes that Lancer if used will probably have been thrashed a bit and raced so that would be risky if buying used. The typical owner of a Mercedes is likely to actually take care of it though (and not redline the engine).

Of course that's no excuse for not getting the car checked over properly.

Your looking for two different cars. I would consider other cars such as the Cadillac cts or if you want performance with attitude the dodge charger. Both are very good cars with plenty of eye appeal and wont cost a fortune to do any repairs. The Lancer evo if you are buying used from my experience is going to be a car that has been beat on. You will also pay a premium to insure either car. So I would take my time and make a choice that will give you what you want without killing you in the long run.

well these 2 cars are very different..the mercedes is strictly luxury...the evo straight performance....though the evo shares the same body as a 15000 lancer, the evo has alot more then an expensice engine...the seat are recars...expensive racing seats...the suspension is tuned for extreme traction with the all wheel drive system and the brakes are very expensive also...they are brembos...if u step on a mercedes and then go step on a evo you'll def kno the difference....if ur not much into performance of a car dont get the evo..because the whole thing is about performance..it sacrifices luxury for performance with its loud rough and herky jerky type ride...if u dont care about performance then by all means get the mercedes...you'll be more happy

To be honest, I always viewed that as an old person car, people of your age should look at the BMW 5-Series which is more athletic *2003-2005 was the time when Mercedes Benz's quality was below most competitiors, in that time when Mercedes went down in quality, BMW went up

if the benz was an amg id take it but the evo is gonna have better ecceleration because its probably a lot lighter, benz and bimmers tend to be pretty heavy.
