Hi, We feed our dogs Canidae All Life Stages.. But give them yogurt, meat, and all kinds of fruit and vegetables.
We feed twice a day, with fresh water available at all times.
You should start training and socializing right away. Dobermans are VERY smart and you want to make sure that you get training them before they realize how smart they are and try to gain the upperhand :)
You want to socialize them to everything and anything.. People, kids, places, the car, noises, Everything that you will encounter in their lifetime. The more you introduce them to when they are young the more willing they are to try things as they get older.. The more they are accepting of new things.

You don't want to coddle them if they show fear.. They do go thru several fear periods as they grow up. You'll know when they are because suddenly they are a little worried about something that previously didn't bother them.. Don't make a fuss about it, don't put them into the situation but don't sucky them.. They'll come thru it and they'll be fine.
Things that scare them when they are going thru fear periods can last a lifetime.. If for example there was an incident with a kid while they are going thru their fear period they could end up always being wary of kids..

You do want to train them, make sure that they know you are the boss.. They aren't going to become aggressive or anything like that. But a Doberman LOVES to know that you are the leader and you can handle the role. They want someone to look to for direction, and someone they can respect. They want to know that you can handle situations. If you can't, then they will..

Get yourself a crate and crate train. It helps with house training, and they like a place that they can go to that is their very own. You might find that they'll prefer to sleep in their crate at night.

You don't need to be bathing them all the time.. A wip down with a wet cloth is great to get out any dust or loose hair. I have a rubber horse brush I use on the dogs to keep them from shedding in the house. They don't shed much, but spring and fall they tend to shed some as the seasons change.

Don't encourage aggressive games.. Aggression builds aggression.. Don't tie them out, it will create aggression. Don't encourage them to chase small animals, they are a high prey drive dog and it will become a game that you'll wish you never encouraged.

They are very much like any other breed of dog..
But they are very people oriented, LOVE to be with people.. Don't always take the dog with you when you go places.. Make sure that you do let him know that sometimes he stays at home.. If you don't, he'll insist that he needs to always go along with you.

Males should be neutered, they do tend to be male dog aggressive if they are left intact. Females should be spayed for obvious reasons, and they can develop pyometra if they are left to keep coming into season and never being bred.

They are a fun breed that is very smart and loyal and they have a great sense of humour.. They love a job to do, no matter how big or small.. Check out some clubs in your area and see about Agility or Tracking, obedience.. Pretty much anything you decide you would like to get into.. the Doberman is up for it..
I wouldn't have any other breed of dog! I think you will enjoy having a Doberman !

Consult a Vet AFTER you have him examined by the same. Do it right not this way.
