the sign of the cross.
http://www.fisheaters.com/sign.html
the website above provides the scriptural basis for the sign of the cross, what it means and how it is performed.
god bless.
it is a catholic thing but not restricted to the roman catholic church, what orthodox are you, in 1056 the schism occured but both forms of catholic have alot in common.
despite some comments it is performed by true christians, formed in the church founded by jesus christ, the holy roman catholic and apostolic church. for those who posted negative comments do you properly understand the origins of the practice, its significance or are you again blindly insulting the faith of those you don't understand? are you also aware of the history of the bible and how the only reason anyone has a bible today is because of the catholic church? and to add the roan catholic church is christian so to say it is a catholic thing is to say it is a christian thing.

The Sign of the Cross is made by Christian religions other than Catholics. It fell out of favour with some Protestant sects in the 16th century. Genuflection is to go down on one knee. You genuflect before the Queen if she is about to dub you a knight. It comes from Latin and means "knee bending".

I was baptized a Methodist and confirmed an Episcopalian and people in the Episcopal church do it. So do Missouri Synod Lutheran churches. These, along with Catholicism, are all apostolic churches.

That's a Roman Catholic thing. I don't need that. I find it rather carnal like much of Catholicism.
