Is it really worse than gay marriage? Would it lower the divorce rate in America? Or would local warfare and homicide be requisite as is commiserate in most natural polygynous societes?

(question inspired by an r&s answerer spillover into philosophy.)

polygyny is polygamy with only the husband getting more than one partner. statistically there are slightly more women than men, so monogamy requires some women to go without.

LMAO shinigami, don't get conceited and think Polygamy only refers to Mormons. "Things Fall Apart" is probably a better persective on how Polygamy typically works.

Polygyny is downright evolutionary sound, so long as it is the woman's choice. The man uses his surplus of support to accomplish the goal of more genetic offspring. Better to fall in love with a poor man than to share Brad Pitt with another woman? (To pop-culturize it.)

Consensual polygamy only works when all the wives get on well together and there's no issues about who inherits what!

It is far too easily twisted to the advantage of the male spouse!

Look at all those cults in Utah and Arizona.

Finaly younger males are disadvantaged since older males get the pick of wives and first preference .

Look at the history of Mughal India and Imperial China and what happened when junior wives tried to get older wives and their sons displaced.

It only seems to work on a very small scale when all the wives get on well together and any inheritance is legally limited to one child or split evenly?

As for the rare practice of polyandry that's usually one woman or two sisters marrying two or three brothers in cultures n which the women control the hosue and property and the men work the farms or do crafts or go off trading and live outside the household.

I see nothing wrong with it as long as it's polygamy or polyandry and not pedofiles.
If both parties are legal ADULTS, over the age of 21, no problem. One being a 12 to 14 year girl and the other being an adult male over 21 is way beyond wrong.

Seriously, I wouldn't mind a second husband. Men my age just don't have the stamina of a 30 year old any more. I still have my needs. Besides, the old fellow could use a break, he doesn't need that much strain on his heart, back and knees these days, even if we do trade off on who does "all the work" And the stress of bringing in a paycheck every two weeks. A younger husband to take on some of the financial resposibilities would be just dandy. As long as he dosen't take a fancy to the second wife, we'll be one big happy family.

There is nothing inherently wrong with it no matter where you live, but that doesn't necessarily make it a good idea.

On one hand, it could be an effective way to address certain social ills, such as those families abandoned by irresponsible men. There is no law against it in the Bible, only questionable implications. Those who say otherwise are either ignorant or parroting what they've been told. Kings were not to abuse their position by collecting wives or wealth. Church leaders are to be good governors of their homes, and that either includes having only one wife or simply having A wife.

On the other hand, it's illegal here in America because of cultural inheritance. It's a bad idea for most men, because they simply aren't up to the challenge of managing such a complex household. It takes more of a man than 90% of us will ever be.

Or even polyandry...The practice of a woman having more than one husband at a time...

I think if two men or two women can get married, why not not allow polygamy?

Polygamy has a history that goes back since humans have been around...And so it is more legitimate than say, same sex marriage...

I think the problem with it was that they were arranging marriages with young daughters to old geezers ect. The group in Utah used it to disguise that they were pedophiles. Because it was a part of their religion the young people had no choice.

If it were consenting adults coming together without some type of force and this was their wish than it doesn't really bother me. I bet it doesn't really work though because people get naturally jealous of not being the "most special."

One of the reasons for polygamy is because there was no welfare system back in the day, and the more people in a household, the more workers you had. (Hopefully none was lazy) We live in a different society now. I'm not sure it's any better, but I'm not going to judge my ancestors. You had to be rich in order to have alot of wives. It wasn't easy. (Or so they say) Also they married very young and the death rate was high.

enable's first positioned aside the very undeniable reality that God has stated marriage should be between a guy and female. we will ought to also positioned aside the very undeniable reality that marriage is ordained of God and sealed by using the divine authority of the Priesthood. (We ought to also assume you or whomever trust the gospel to be actual.) ok. in accordance to the gospel, exaltation is the optimal degree or blessing achieveable attain. i could imagine that *could* be anybody's wonderful objective. Exaltation. Now, with the intention to get carry of that optimal degree, a guy and female (women human beings) ought to enter into the hot and eternal covenant of marriage AND save their covenants. The covenant is entered into by using the couple and God and sure by using the Holy Priesthood. there is God, the Preisthood holder and the female. To me, the Priesthood holder is esentiall the "covenant maker", for the covenant isn't valid without the Priesthood holder. ok, so my personal techniques the following, enable's say same-sex marriage changed into criminal... yet, 2 Priesthood holders could not enter into one covenant. i imagine there is something about the "one" covenant maker, and he's the "one" Priesthood holder. Then in case you thik about 2 women human beings, there is not any covenant able to be made, so of route it quite is likewise out of line with God's eternal plan. i don't believe of it truly is a be counted of "what's incorrect or top"... i really imagine it has to do with 2 adult adult males can't covenant at the same time nor can 2 women human beings. i really imagine it has plenty to do with the Priesthood, who holds it and who would not. even with if both adult adult males are Priesthood holders... the major reason i trust same-sex marriage is inaccurate, except the apparent, is because it can't convey about an eternal marriage. For that be counted, any civil unions do not both, so technically they're "incorrect" too i wager. incorrect in accordance to the gospel. not incorrect morally. If it quite is smart... i imagine it truly is actual a good blessing for those contained in the condition who've had a compulsory different die and remarry and are able to be sealed for eternity. I recommend, that shows to me that our Father in Heaven loves us very a lot. we are able to purely see the carnal fringe of plural better halves, which that carnality gained't exist contained in the subsequent existence, so i do not see what the enormous deal is. So, lengthy answer, i imagine there is not something incorrect with polygamy *at the same time as* appropirately abided by using. I DO oppose gay marriage.

I find it distasteful among adults, mainly because it's always the men who have a lot of wives. What happens when one of the wives wants another husband or two? There's a weird kind of double standard there.

Now, if it involves marrying young girls who aren't able to defend themselves, that should be against the law.

if Polygamy is ok to you, Then in your point of view nothing is wrong with it. Another person can only tell you their point of view, No man can really say what is right or what is wrong they can only speak of what their faith speaks. either it be your faith in science or your faith in a deity, Words are only the concepts and echoes of faith what is green may be blue to another and what is trash to one is a treasure to another. Life is a point of view, if you follow your heart everything you do will be good or not bad in your eyes. Life is nothing but a point of view.

It's not my business. If consenting adults want to practice polygamy, then I believe they should be able to. If there were ever a proposition to legalize polygamy, I would support it as long as polyandry were legal as well.
