I have heard that honey that is unfiltered and raw (not processed) has been used in treating allergies to pollen. I don't know what kind of pollen but I imagine most tree, grass and weeds. I read an article that said to take a couple of teaspoons a day before the allergy season starts and it would help in improving your symptoms.

I know some people swear by it. I understand that for it to work, you must use local honey.

Chuck: The use of honey for seasonal allergy has been around for a long time. The honey must be unfiltered, raw, and from the immediate area (within 3 miles). The idea is that eating the honey will be like standard immunotherapy (where you take shots and receive a small amount of allergen to de-sensitize your immune system to the pollen). Unfortunately, it has extremely limited success. The problem is that most allergies from pollens are caused by wind-borne pollens. These are pollens from trees, grasses, and rag weeds. These pollens are white and very light and are carried on the wind. Bees don't care about this kind of pollen, and they don't visit the plants that produce this type of pollen. Bees are attracted to plants that have heavy, yellow, waxy pollen. This type of pollen rarely causes allergy. If you can find honey from your immediate area, it doesn't hurt to try (its a good excuse to eat honey). But don't be disappointed if it doesn't work for you.

Yes absolutely!
It has to be raw and unfiltered. Its like a vaccine, where in the vaccine there's a little piece of the (virus or allergy or what have you) and your body builds an immunity.
With raw, unfiltered honey you're eating the pollen from that particular area. Some say they feel a great reduction in allergies... but for that area's flora and fauna.

It's kind of like vaccinations: You have to use local, raw honey so you can get some local allergens in a less concentrated form which your body can fight off... Then when allergy season comes about, your body is ready...

I suppose it can help some people. Be cautious, other people are allergic to honey.
