Why when I am asking a question about buying a pedigree cat am i bombarded with people telling me what a bitch I am for not getting one from the spca. I'm entitled to own whatever kind of cat I wish to own - I hate that I am being made out to be the bad guy because of other peoples cruelty and mistakes. Engage your brains before mouthing off to cat fanciers.

I was going to agree with you until I went and read your questions. Nobody called you a ***** and of the 10 people that answered your question only one even mentioned a shelter and it read:
"Why not just go to your local shelters and adopt a cat????"
There was nothing uncivil about that answer that my properly "engaged brain" can see.
If you can't handle one answer that you don't agree with you should either just give it a "thumbs down" so you don't have to look at it or refrain from posting in emotionally charged categories. We're not being paid to answer your questions. We're just people and people have opinions.

Well I won't criticize but you do know that shelters can have purebred cats as well, don't you? I have two Persians and both came from shelters. And they're not half Persians, part Persians, KINDA Persian - they're PERSIANS. So unless you want a cat with a pedigree to show as a purebred cat do check the shelters first. There's also rescue groups for specific breeds. The local shelters have their info and call them up when one shows up so that they'll take them off their hands and have a much better chance at being adopted out.
Sometimes you can actually find papered cats as well. Recently there was one at my local shelter that had been surrendered when his owner died. Mine were strays, though, so didn't exactly have their papers tucked under their arms! You can also show the non-pedigreed purebreds as "Household Pets". Mine compete in TICA shows and one's already titled.
PS: don't let the people here upset you. They're not educated about what you're asking and just wanting to be heard.

gismoblu, you are right. I adopted a Bengal. I research a while and knew I wanted one with this personality. My Cedrick (18 years, best companion) passed away recently. I know that no one will replace him and he was truly the best, we are such a good match.
Adopting our Bengal was a great thing. I researched the breeder and met his mom and dad. I miss Cedrick so much. You have to do what you think you want. People judged me ... but we are so happy with our Bengal. I don't think that any kitty would have been good. I didn't go to the pound cause I would have probably wanted many of them.
I adopted who I wanted and if a cat that needs a family shows interest or needs a family ... I'll consider it faith

I understand completely. I myself have a desexed entirely indoor pedigree cat but do agree those who feel like that adopting from animal shelters is socially responsible. I think the best solution is that people get whatever sort of cat they want, be responsible about it and keep their judgements to themselves...its ok to suggest that someone has the option of rescuing a animal but not to deride them if they choose not to.

I agree with gymsock...only ONE person said anything about a shelter and in a nice way. What is the big deal? I think you are being very petty and are insulted easily..that is YOUR problem if you take everything in a bad way. Also, you can find purebred cats in shelters...so what is wrong with adopting a cat there? Don't see what the big fuss is..think you are just being a drama queen.

I know what you mean. It's the same with papered dogs and horses.Maybe they're jealous. I've had mutt animals and papered animals and I'm not going to say one is better than the other but it's really nobody's business but my own, If those people want to go out and rescue mutt animals that's their decision but as long as I pay for the feed, vet bills, etc, I plan to have the pets I want.

if you post in a public forum you have to expect that you are going to recieve some really inane responses along with any good ones. Never underestimate the stupidity of large groups of people. Nothing says you have to read what they write.

Everyone gets these kinds of answers. Some people are just plain bored and have nothing better to do. Not a big deal.
