I've never heard that.

Shin splints are most often the result of not running heel-to-toe
or switching from soft (grass) to hard (asphalt, gym floor, indoor track)

Also, once you've got them, you've got them. They shouldn't start to reappear after half a mile unless you only run once a wk or less

Let them heel, then run on grass if possible. Run heel-toe and make sure your toes pt. straight ahead (not pigeon toed)

The way to correct Shin splints is to strengthen the muscles at the front of the legs. Lie face down in bed with your toes hanging over the edge. Pull your toes upward against the resistance of the mattress. Try to work up to 3 or 4 sets of 5 – 10 reps each.

Your description of the shoes seems to indicate they don't fit well or are worn out. Not good. Get fitted with a good pair of fitting shoes that protect and support.

Good Luck
