you sounded like you're not expecting atheists to read this.

whether you like it or not, theists rule over themselves... there are no gods.

rather, the theist's delusions rule over them.

Well if they are also evolutionists than, yep yep.

As I have posted on another question, true scientists approach everything with what is called the "Null Hypothesis" this means that until proof (and I mean statistically significant 95% or greater with MANY samples ) is found they will believe that said theory is false.

In the case of Evolution, (Darwin's theory, so Darwin's rules). Proof would only be possible if transitional species were found. This has NEVER happened, not once. Let alone statistically significant data.

Therefore to believe something with a lack of "Observable", "Measurable" and/or "Repeatable" data is pure faith.

edit-- *chuckles* Mensa? Should I be frightened or chortle at your arrogance? There should be no need for e-mail. If you have done a scientific work of this magnitude I should be able to read it in a peer-reviewed journal. I am sure an MIT student would know how to publish. Post the reference to your published works on your profile.

Since faith is the ultimate evil, I certainly hope that I have none. Faith is the belief in something without evidence, or in the face of contrary evidence; as such, it is not logical. The essence of humanity is the ability to apply logic to evidence and draw useful conclusions; if you rely on faith, you have deliberately rejected your humanity. What could be worse than that?

Atheists believe, and can prove, that the only way to learn anything is through science. Nobody rules over atheists.

Postscript: I must reply to the previous responder: evolution (unlike most other scientific theories) is provable, and I have done so; details are available on request. (Please provide an e-mail address.)

Faith is belief without or despite evidence.

Since what we believe (i.e. that there is no god) is consistent with all the evidence and also the null hypothesis which is assumed when there is no proof of a god we don't need faith to not have any belief in god.

With some types of god such as the Christian and Islamic gods we have proof that they don't even exist (admittedly we don't have a general disproof for every type of god but we've got disproofs but the most commonly believed ones).

They do not believe in anything, we live, we die, we're done, period. You can't have faith in something you do not believe exists. I am not an aethiest, but my closest friend is, and my husband calls himself the anti-christ. They just do not believe that there is anything outside of this, controlling anyone or anything. There is no belief and there is no faith. And yet, they are super nice people with happy lives and healthy children - amazing, considering many believers would say they were condemned.

Everyone has some sort of faith, but most of the time people put faith in other people or in machines instead of God.

For example when you pump gas in your car you have faith that it is gas and not water.

Or when you go to a drive thru restaurant and pick up your food at the window, most people don’t even check to see if it is what they ordered they just have faith that it is right.

God has created every person to be born with faith, but He gave them free will to direct their faith in what every form they chose.

Atheists, as far as I understand, believe in themselves, humanity, and nature.

They have great faith in human nature, and it's ability to accomplish wonderful things withOUT the threat of eternal damnation for eating meat on a Sunday.

:)

It is not an opinion, it is a fact that we do not have religious faith in a higher being. If you do then you are not an atheist. Why does anything have to rule over us?

We have faith, usually in ourselves and/or in others. As far as ruling over us, I can only answer for myself (as usual)... Nobody rules over me. I'm not a slave, and slavery went out of style a long time ago.

Fortunately, the benevolent Christian acts of having non-believers drawn and quartered went out of style too.

i'm sure they feel like they can rule over themselves just fine and i'm sure they'll tell you that they don't have all the answers they just don't believe in god the way it's been sold to them. i am a christian and absolutely believe in god but i prefer an atheist who has thought for him or her self over a religious person who has just believed what has been spoon fed to them.

Let me explain it to you this way. I was once an ON FIRE Christian. I lost my faith. I tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried to get it back. I read everything from science to psychology to history to sociology. I explored several religions and I know more about Christianity than any other Christian I know. I tried more. I tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed to god to please allow me to find a way to continue to believe in him. After doing this for years and years and years and years and years and years, it became clear that there was nothing I could do to get myself to believe in god no matter how hard I tried.

So you tell me. Am I using faith to uphold my atheism?
