I have this guy friend and everything at the beginning of our friendship was perfect. We got along and everything and just recently he has been saying mean things to me. for example, he said that i have such a sad family ( which makes no sense) and he would belittle me over the phone. Why does he do this. I don't understand. I have never ever have anyone speak to me like this before and it gets me very upset.
I have been super nice too.

well for my oppinion he is either just venting out on you, maybe something happen to make him mad which as some people just let it out especially men, so ask him if anything has been bothering him lately, or maybe he was interested in you then something happen an he got impatient, or maybe he found another girl so the reason why he is so mean is cause he is trying to rid of you, it can be alot of things so i suggest that you just ask him "what's been your problem lately, why are you all of a sudden mean? is this the real you? is something wrong or bothering you", let him know that if thats the case that you can help with a lending ear. well good luck!

It jealousy. I had a friend who belittled me, and tried to call me out on wanting to be like her, which wasn't true. There is nothing wrong with you, its him. He isn't happy, so he's trying to make you unhappy as well. Don't let it get you down, and let him know you don't appreciate those comments.

Maybe he is trying to get your attention so that you can be his gf. Or he may be jealous tt you have a happy family that made him upset so he start to belittle you

I think you should dump this guy cold, but if you feel that that's too strong, try asking him why he is treating you so inferior, ask if his life is going ok. (it might not be) so , yeah.
