I burned myslef probably 4 hours ago on my hand from taking a skillet out of the oven and the pot holderbeing too low... I held on to the skillet for probably 5 seconds because i didn't want to drop it... I think it is a second degree burn... should it still be burning very bad right now... Especially if I put aloe on it and blow it, it doesn't hurt very bad until the aloe dries and then it starts burning again like I just took the skillet off of it... I'm wondering what I can do now because it's on my hand about where it bends and I do almost everything with this hand.. What can I do to stop the pain?

Oh.. And the skin on the burn itself is like white but around it the skin is like an orangeish brownish color... It looks kind of like when you have a bruise and it's almost gone like that kind of orangeish color... And yes there is skin on the burn but it's all raised up and kind of tough feeling but really super painful to touch..

With any burn, you dont put any kind of oily substance on it....it can burn more. The only thing you should be doing is putting ice on the burn. I am a senior first aider and it is very important you only put cool water or ice wrapped up in a tea towel....that should help with the pain. If it is really bad, you may have to go to the hospital and get it dressed.

You need some burn cream and maybe a doctor. I burnt my hand one time and it hurt much like yours. I thought it was just a second degree burn too. The next morning my hand was swollen. After seeing the doctor, I learned it was a thrid degree burn. And since I had waited over night before seeing the doctor, I had about 2 weeks of sheer agony as they kept scrubbing the top layers of skin off until the new skin I was getting started to come out pink. I have no idea why they had to do this, but it was agony.

I suggest you see a burn specialist right away.

Take a few painkillers to ease the pain, soak a rag in aloe then wrap it around your hand. You may want to consider going to the doctor if it isn't blistering and the pain hasn't subsided at all. But do soak it with the rag and wait just a little while and see how you feel, but be sure to put topical medication on it to reduce scarring if, and when, the pain does go away.

I'm not a doctor or anything, that's just what I do when I burn myself pretty bad cooking things...

Is the skin pink or pale? Is there skin over the burn or is it off? This would be helpful in diagnosing what degree of burn you have. My recommendation is to get some Silvadene cream. You can only get it by prescription but it is the best and relieves pain quick. Maybe you can call your Dr. and they will just phone it in for you or have it checked at your local ER if it remains bothersome. Good luck!

This may sound crazy, but try potato juice, works for me! The only problem is that youll have to get someone to shred on for you to get the juice :(

If you have a drug store open near you, run out and get some burn pads - theyre thick pads with gel inside, and feel like heaven when put on a burn.

If you have a large or scary looking blister tomorrow morning, or cant sleep tonight because of the pain, get in to see your doctor right away so that you dont get an infection or serious scarring.

Good luck!

how large is this burn? and where is it?

-Ohhhh, I hate saying this, but maybe you should get medical treatment tonight. It doesnt sound good. Here are some things you may want to read:

Either way, dont put ice on it. Thats the common consensus from hospitals and doctors. You could give yourself frostbite and not even know it, further damaging your skin. Use cold water and cold compresses!

Best of luck to you hon!

Lanacaine works miracles for burns. Try holding it under cold running water or immersing it in cold water until the burning stops. Then apply the aloe to it and wrap it loosly with gauze to keep air off from it. Air will cause it to burn and sting. Don't bust any blisters because it causes infections. But if they bust on their own apply antibiotic ointment to keep from infection. Do not apply ice it can cause frostbite to burns and cause more problems.Good luck, best wishes.

Any time you get burned you have to put it under cold running water to stop the burning process. I would suggest to go to the doctors, emergency room, or urgent care to get something in a prescription strength. They have a cream called Silverdine that works wonders on burns.

put colgate on it. It'll burn but it will stop eventually. You just gotta becareful. Avoid wetting it. And as soon as it's raised it'll burst and water will come out of it. then it won't hurt that much. normally last for 3 days. Also try not to think about it. Cause the more you think about it the more it'll pain you.
Get better :)
