That's corporal punishment.
Basically, if a parent cannot get the message across to the kid any other way, a spanking will have to deliver the message until the kid develops some intelligence.
It is doing a major disservice to the kid if the parent does not instill discipline, morals, ethics and all of that other good stuff that makes it easy to get along in society.

ummm yer come out from that rock you've been hiding under yer parents are allowed to smack their kids and so they should if the child behaves badly enough wouldn't you?
if you just say no the child doesn't feel threatened or scared but if you smack them they understand that if the behaviour continues they will be smacked again.

well i think that it's none of their business if its a smack on the back of the hand for continual bad behaviour. I do not condone abuse and makes a tear in my eye when you see those HORRIBLE stories on TV about child abuse especially when it comes from the kids own parents but come on common sense. eg biting etc of little kids, not good.....you start feeling like you can't even discipline your own kids.

,Did you know the world is going to hell in a hand basket, and that is one of the reasons. I don't think hitting to hurt is good, but spanking to make A KID MIND... WORKS. I did it ,and my kids grew up to be real well adjusted people. Don't see many come out of the "DR.Spock ideas" that are well adjusted. Just my opinion. Georgia

Of course it's legal-- what's illegal is taking it above and beyond...
And that's the hard part-- that's a different point from everyone's POV... I choose not to do it at all.

I think it is okay. on the butt, where it cannot injure. I know it has been said many times but i think that is what is wrong with the kid genereation now.

No, it’s not weird at all. It’s called discipline. That's a different thing than abuse.
