To quote the former governor of Minnesota, Jesse 'The Body' Ventura, "Religion is a crutch for the weak!" There are many emotionally weak people out there. Whats to stop these fragile minds from snapping and trying to destroy all that is around them? The fear of eternal punishment. So until we can fix crazy, lets be glad that religion truly is the opiate of the masses.

Sure it's still relevant.
What you call "science" is the religion of naturalism. It rules out the supernatural a priori and therefore isn't true science. You put science in the place many put religion, and your science is religion (it denies the existence of the supernatural, therefore is a belief system regarding the supernatural, therefore is religious), so you've answered your own question by declaring your religion (science) relevant.
Religion lacks credibility to you but not necessarily to everyone. Your science lacks credibility to me. That doesn't make it irrelevant. In fact here we are discussing it; it sounds relevant at least to us.

faith does not basically could be approximately an all-understanding deity. it truly is a quest to attain a definite point of self-expertise, a fashion of explaining your self extra advantageous than the international around you. In that sense, faith will probable under no circumstances get previous, in spite of the reality that with the upward push of medical data, if some religions do not exchange their claims, it's going to be very puzzling to hold on the brink of them. case in point, as a pagan, it truly is easy for me to settle for evolution as a results of fact the technique that have been given us the place we are at the instant below the coaching of something that we don't somewhat comprehend, be it a deity or a thoroughly medical technique. The creationist religions could have a extra stable time accepting evolution, which has tremendously lots been shown even although there are nonetheless people who adamantly carry on the brink of the "that's in basic terms a theory!" warcry.

I don't really understand the question. It's like, does fly fishing have a place in today's society? I've never done it, and don't plan to, but some people do.
I personally find religion ridiculous and pointless, but others like it and i believe they should be free to choose to be religious if they want to. In this sense it does have a place in society.

Science is a way to grow intellectually.
Religion is a way to grow spiritually.
The strive for balance in life includes growing in many ways:
physically, intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, financially, socially.
At different times in life, we have strengths in growing one way over another. Perhaps right now what is credible or not to you will later vary since you are constantly changing how you grow.
For now, maybe you may find the blend you are searching for in a belief system that isn't recorded, explained, or boxed for your preferences. You were placed here to grow your own perceptions and 'blend' or you wouldn't have written this question. For you to grow intellectually as well as spiritually- it looks good on you. That is who you are today. Own it.
If you find or develop a practice that helps you grow spiritually, perhaps you will have found the religion for which you seek relevance to you.
Enjoy the journey.

All you have to do is look at this section in YA and see how active it is to see that religion clearly has a place in modern society.

That depends. It seems to me that people in modern society are more ignorant, greedy, selfish and egotistical than ever before. So..if that's the kind of society you're talking about than no....because adding religion into a culture such as this only creates hatred and war.
However if you're speaking of a society that is intelligent, humane, compassionate, inquisitive and looking for progressive evolvement than certainly, as religion can foster their sense of wonderment, encourage exploration unto answers and promotes the spread of camaraderie.

As long as religion continues to exist it will be relevant since it will affect society.
As for whether it should exist, I'd lean towards a no, it's more trouble than it's worth.
