Why do fundamentalist Christians drive me freakin' nuts? I am actually Christian myself, but when I get around fundamentalists they seem to tap dance on every one of my nerves almost to the point where I am ashamed to call myself a Christian. I don't want to be judgmental but their behavior can be truly offensive to me at times. Should I just chill out and relax, or say something to these people.

I like that part about tap dancing on your nerves. I know what you mean. That expression "so heavenly minded they're no earthly good" comes to mind. And it's hard to tell another Chrisitan to tone it down without looking like a heathen. If they're attacking your faith, you might have to arm yourself with some scripture when you know you're going to see them. Otherwise, unless they're standing on the table at Sizzler's speaking in tongues, you might be better off just to ask the Lord to give you strength. Bless their hearts, they just don't know any better.

God bless you, and hang in there.

It doesn't matter what you do. If you suffer in silence, PERHAPS you will be rewarded in the afterlife. The sparrow does not worry about its recourse to religious madmen. And are you not more important than an unspecified number of sparrows? Consider the lily. It neither spin doctors nor toils over its retorts. Yet there is no electronic gadget or neon cross adorned as beautifully as a suffering human. Grist for the mill, and a hundred talents shoved in a hole in the ground. Also, don't eat pork.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to throttle the self-righteous and arrogant among us. For reasons too many to mention, I always speak up when I hear Christians putting other people down. I refuse to be silent when someone starts belittling others and talking about others' lack of faith or knowledge or discernment or whatever else they come up with.

I am respectful when I speak up, and I've taken some insults myself for it, but I don't regret being true to my convictions. No one has the right to put anyone else down, especially in the name of Jesus. I am bold and articulate, and I am honored to use these abilities to emasculate the hypocrites and defend the underdog.

As you can imagine, some Christians I know really, really dislike me. I don't care.

Hey, you know where your Jesus is.

Just don't get caught up in where those people hide their Jesus.

Yes, I find them annoying too. And even moreso when I point out something they say is against the teachings of Jesus, but they can't deal with it.

SOME of them can be spoken to, and even understand. But often they are so dogmatic they have no ears. (Try that Jesus quote on them.)

Fundamentalists are merely people who have read the bible, and believe it. Moderates are either people who haven't read the bible, or have read it but ignore vast sections of it in order to maintain santiy. Atheists are people who have read it and think it is all entirely ridiculous.

I am an atheist and you are a moderate. Fundamentalists drive me nuts too, but their beliefs make more sense than moderates. Either you believe it or you don't, there's no in between.

I just love fundamentalist Christians.

The right whisper, the right time, and they're off the brink!
