I understand that people want to know who created life and all, and mostly, it seems that Catholics have a strong edge on that, but really...does it matter THAT much to make things official? I do believe in a creator but that's it, mainly. I don't want to get such a strong thought that i want to try to convert people to it! So why all the fuss? I believe in God and Jesus and all but I;m not headstrong about knowing THE TRUTH!

I also think, personally, that the fact the someone believes in a creator, that's enough and as long as they're happy, that's all they need in life, because who knows where we came fro, anyway. If the Catholic GOD created us in his image, then he should understand our curiosity and eagerness to know, right? If he did make us, he'd know what all people go through in life; pressure, beliefs, love, all that. So, my question is, do you think that knowing if god exists is that important and that the world wants to make an official one alright to do so?

It is a trillion dollar fraud that millions have been killed for.

I think that makes it pretty damn important.

Uhmmm.
Not headstong to know the truth?

Good thing your god has such a laid back style, cause man if he wanted you to learn what then?

If God asked you to study, search, quest, yearn, delve, sift, discern, discipher the world with your curiousity what then? maybe you might take sides, maybe make stuff whoa now..., official. Maybe you might wanna, hey here's an idea, TEACH to another what you have gleaned so they may ask better, more isghtful, futher reaching questions of mighty worth.

Perhaps...with your curiosity you might be held accountable for bad judgement, and for good (so if you are bad you get a kick in the rear and if you are good you get a new car or a handshake and a pretty card.) if you do right it is noticed and if you do wrong you are corrected. Maybe, maybe you want to know how God chooses now and later? Under such circumstances, you might need more then just believeing he exsists, you might need some barometer to teach you the paths of good and evil. Hence; books, teachers, preists, temples, and hallowed halls of contemplation and learning and worship.

This is a very loaded question. I believe that everyone has a religion even atheists. They don't believe in a God and that is their religion. I think that religion is important because deep down inside us all we want to believe that there is more to life than what is on the surface. There is more to life than what we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. Think about it hypothetically. You've been shafted your whole life. Your significant other left you, you were abused as a child, you're homeless, and every other horrible thing on earth that can happen to you has. Wouldn't you want to believe that in all this pain and suffering you have been through that there is some kind of light at the end of the tunnel? Religion is different from faith. Also it isn't a crutch like so many people believe. If it wasn't for my religion/faith then I would have nothing stopping me from getting a gun and shooting a buttload of people before taking my own life. Having religion/faith gives me hope. People without religion/faith have no hope and therefore choose to do the things they do.

Without it there is no order or sense of safety and redemption. The issue amongst religions is more what is the nature of justice, not whether or not it should exists. As a Calvinists I would say no one can escape gods will, so justice is gods will being done, which cannot be escaped. But really justice across the board is people being treated as a result of their actions according to the rules and code of the particular religion.

Religion is the tool to condition the mind into man and teaches him to be,to behave, to believe, love and to live according to its code of conduct. thus man regulates and manipulates ups and down of his life by self analyzing what is good or bad.
But religion is the obstacle in realizing the truth of one's own existence. The idea of creation and creator is only until man believes the physical body as Self. when the physical body is not the knower of the physical body itself . Then what is that knows the physical body?
The knower of the physical body is invisible. Therefore viewing and judging the world view as a person forming the idea of creator or creation is erroneous. One has to know what self is then only one becomes aware of the fact that whatever is seen and known and experienced as a person is mere illusion.
God is dependent on man for his existence. Man is dependent on mind for his existence. Therefore man is not a man but mind is the substance. To unfold the mystery of your own existence it is necessary to know the fact that the physical body is not the self. The invisible knower of the physical body and the world is the true self. On the standpoint of the invisible knower the experience of the person and his perceived world is mere illusion

The funny part is that without the idea of God - we humans would not have evolved to the part where we are right now. In Modern World - we have animal protection rights, human rights, environmental rights... We have evolved over time. So, I'd like to think that more progress will be made. But how to answer: How we got here?

For one, all these religions of earth make easier on all us taxpayers. We aren't supporting the nuts who can't grow up and stand on their own two feet and make a life on their own without leaning on this God or someone else. If there wasn't a place for them to go, they would be in institutions and we foot the bill. I am of faith, BUT a faith which thousands of years ago taught that the Lord in heaven created us and gave us all we have and it is up to US as to what we do with all the GIFTS he gave. OUR destiny is in OUR hands. If God is a PARENT as most seem to view a God in heaven, when do all these children learn to GROW UP? Nothing gets done from our knees and god is not making the changes to the world WE should be mature enough to do for it ourselves. FAILURE has much to do with HOW people perceive the Lord's responsibilities to us, YET many don't see that alot of it lays in their lap and not God's. It why you see religion so popular in 3rd world countries and why poverty never changes. They don't bother to take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for themselves for they expect GOD to do what their lazy butts won't do. Religion is important to the lazy, FAITH is above religion to those who KNOW the Lord created us to be our own God and care for all he gave OURSELVES........

Religions are all patently false. But because life is so hard for so many people, human beings always tend to create a fantasy of an afterlife where they will get a pay off for their suffering. Unfortunately, the act of waiting for an afterlife when things will be better makes it tougher to make things better in the here and now.

I agree with you, believing it yourself is good enough. But humans are like that - we like to make stuff official, it makes us feel more confident about it. Now instead of saying "i wonder if my idea of god is ok" you can have the assurance that a gizillion other people have the same idea, so you think, "hey, i must be right, right?" But its a false assurance.

Mostly religion is used as a way of controling people and oppressing them, especially women.

People got scared that there was nothing good after death. They were afraid of non-existance so they created heaven and hell. Well, it depends on the religion, but you understand.
