I don't think that it is myself, but I am very curious at other people's reactions.

I keep hearing people claim that Christians need to live right, stay away from porn and promiscuous sex, never, never, never contemplate abortion (you'd think that was the unforgiveable sin committed by the Pharisees), and attend enough church council meetings and you'll be good to go.

What happened to being filled with fire? What happened to Christ's command to love and serve the poor (instead of railing against welfare programs)? If we as Christians are against abortion, shouldn't we be spending some good time helping single mothers in desperate situations out?

Shouldn't we be working to bring God's Kingdom here on earth by showing grace, mercy, love, to other people, even the most supposedly sinful and downcast? Would Christ do any less?

I totally agree with you. I sometimes wonder if some people have a different Bible than the one I'm reading. Jesus tells me to love my neighbors as myself, to leave the judging to God, to seek and make peace, to care about those less fortunate than I, to worry about my own sins and let others worry about theirs. I don't see any teachings that encourage greed, judgmentalism, war or self-centeredness, yet I hear a lot of so-called Christians who are caught up in these things.

I saw a bumper sticker on the way to work last week that said "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" and it really made me stop and think.

Its not just that, but you're right, some Christians have their priorities mixed up. Those good works and obedience to God should come as a by-product of our faith, a show of love towards him. That comes in different forms sometimes, whether it be fighting abortion legally or helping out people who experience it firsthand. Neither is better than the other, but they are both serving God and so either one is fine in His eyes.

I must not go around in the same Christian circles as you. I have never heard anyone describe Christianity as needing to live right.

Yet, I think you are correct concerning Christian behavior.

My take is that our behavior, indeed, our very being is shaped by seeking God. Our love for our neighbor flows from our search for God for where love is, there God is also. We cannot start by trying to help our neighbor under our own ideas, we must start by seeking God, He will change who we are, and all else will flow from that.

That has a name: legalism. Christianity is about knowing that we're helpless sinners, and accepting Jesus' sacrifice as our redemption. Receiving God's love and reflecting that love in everything we do. It's not about trying to live right, but about sharing grace with the world, the same grace that saved us, so that other may be saved too.

No. First it is accepting Christ as Savior. Then it is loving God with all your heart and mind. Third is love your neighbor as you do yourself. That third part is the part about helping single mothers, widows, elderly, homeless etc.

Faith without good works toward others, does not show others what use faith is.

You are right we should try to do what Christ did and show His love to others!

I think that you have to find your beliefs, develop a close relationship with the Lord and do what it is you honestly believe that He wants you to do. We should all be everyday Christians but in this day and age, it seems really tough sometimes. How much better this world would be if more people considered what the good Lord wanted us to do though eh?

I agree. I heard the song waiting on the world to change by John Mayer and I was like wait. we as Christians shouldn't wait on the world to change we need to stand up and change it. but so many Christians just sit back in their church pew and watch and it bugs me so much like come on guys lets do something about it!

Christianity has little to do with Jesus Christ.
It was invented by St. Paul.
Jesus was a jew and his followers were considered to be just another jewish sect.
