The M1 is a much better quality rifle. I have a carbine, and it is a blast to shoot. The 770 would be a great intro level rifle for someone with a limited budget, but if you can afford it, upgrade to a model 700 Remington. You'll drop about twice the cash, but it'll be a quality rifle for years. I own a Remington 700 chambered in .243 that is nearly 20 years old, and still shooting a tight group at the range.

You have to realize that this isn't a fair comparison by any standards or means..The Remington 770 is a good solid "entry" level firearm, but the M1 Garand..That's another story all together. The Garand is a world renown, battle proven, premium rifle and remains so even these days. A decent M1 Garand can cost upwards of $1100 and Higher in today's market. They are a solid investment that will never decrease in value. Incredibly accurate and efficient. It don't think it gets better than that.I don't even need to take a second to think about it.I would choose the M1 in a heartbeat.Hands Down.....

The Remington 770 is the budget Remington decent but economically priced. The M1 Garand is a premium combat rifle that is costly to say the least.
Which would I rather have? Why The Garand, of course.
Best.

Obviously a M1 Garand! The Remington 770 is the budget bolt-action rifle for hunters with no cash, the M1 is a classic.

The Remington 770 is a very good bolt action rifle, even though it is their entry level rifle..... The M1 Garand is an old military rifle that the quality hasn't been matched in a long time..... if you have the chance of picking one up I recommend it. Im getting a M1Carbine..... the old military rifles are a blast to shoot at the rifle ranges.

The normal price is $275-300 in my area. The rifle comes in a lot of different calibers. The most common to see are .243, .270, and 30-06. As an owner of a Remington 770, I would advise you to buy a different rifle.
