One summer during college break I worked in this factory. We processed the name brand product the company was known for. But we also produced the same product and packaged it under a store brand product. So you were actually getting the same product. It is just that you paid more for the companies product who put out the products.

I have found that name brand ketchup is the only way to go. I have tried cheaper brands or off brand and they were awful. Cheap toilet paper is a waist of money. One ply roles that are very small. I can drink off brand pop as long as it is not diet. For diet pop I need the name brand. Like diet coke.

Another product that is must for name brand is VICKS. I have have tried the off brand and it did not work. So I went back and bought Vicks. I compared the ingredients. The generic vicks only had less then half of the menthol that Vicks vapor rub had.

I guess it is trial and error. Many people think as Suave as an off brand. I use man of their products and have not had a problem with them.

There is a brand call equate. I have tried their shampoos and conditioners and lotions. They are water down and runny and do absolutely nothing. The lotion is so watery you can not get it rubbed in. Your skin is still dry after using it. The shampoo does make suds.

Something in life are just not worth skimping on.

Most of the time they are better. But then there are some certain items that taste like crap compared to a big named product ...like soup and milk I've noticed.
Always compare the ingredients and see if it is the same as the name brand...then buy it....
I go with the generic chips all the time...and they are even better tasting and less fat. It's all trial and error.

yeah, even better most of the time. There is a generic brand from walmart brand diaper name paren'ts choice that made diaper, cleanser, and baby bottles that are much cheaper and at a higher quality than the expensive brands that I paid for. Now even the no name brand HD TV are really impressive looking too . There's Olivia at target , and Vizzio at Walmart. I can't even tell the difference between the cheaper and the Sony brand. Color, clarity, size, shape, movement, sound, dimension, etc were identical.

It completely depends on the product. Some things I always buy generic (breakfast cereal, cooking supplies such as olive oil and sugar) because the quality and taste seem the same as the name brand. Some things are just personal preference. For example, I bought generic oatmeal and hated it! Wasn't worth the $1 I saved! Some things you just have to try, and make a decision on your own as to which is better.

generic means "basic names" or the composition name of a certain product... like ...we call toothpaste as the generic name of Colgate or close up or sensodyne,,etc. ...
named brand gets their reputation thru good ads and good performance ...this is why we chose some brands over the other... if all products has no brand name, then you would not know which one does better than the other...
one good point in choosing over generic names is the manufacturer... you must choose a reputable manufacturer that made that specific generic product.
as to your question... yes , they can be as good ,as long as they state the manufacturer,,, you then choose your favorite factory.that you can trust.....

most of the time, yeah. it's kind of a process of testing and learning what you like in generic and what you don't. there are some things that i absolutely would never get generic and other things that i don't care. kind of depends what it is.
