BLACK!!!!!!!
It is all colors, it goes with all colors. It is the dark that defines the Light, it is velvet, it is night.
Without it there would seem no life in other colors. Without it what would we wear to mourn the loss of others?
It can be flat and solid, or deep as the deepest pool. And definitely not worn by that motley fool.
It provides the shade that defines the art, and lends the villian his darksome heart.
It's gothic tones and somber hues for interest does not lack,
just like Johnny Cash- the man in black.

The use of a "mother color". If you pick a color like raw umber or brunt sienna or Payne's Grey and add varying amounts to the other colors you paint with, this is what is called using a "mother color". It unifies the artwork and when you leave it out you get a unique contrast that is stunning and eye catching and adds great emphasis to the center of interest. I suppose you could use many options as a mother color but for the ease of color mixing and tone I like Raw Umber.

my favorite color is blue. oh there have been other favorites, but they are minor, like secondary favorites, compared to my long-lasting love of blue.
