I recommend the Solia and/or the Sedu. They're great because they have plates made of tourmaline......a kind of stone that is even safter for your hair than ceramic.
All flat irons will do *some* damage to your hair.....but this is not a big deal if you have your hair trimmed when you find split ends and use a leave-in product made to protect your hair against heat. (Something like L'Oreal Hot Straght or Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide. Silicone-based ingredients work well, but too much can make hair greasy....).
I asked the lady who cuts my hair how often is safe to use a flat iron. She said that if it is a truly professional-quality flat iron and I use a heat-protectant, then I can flat iron my hair daily. I'm not sure if I believe this........straightening every 2-3 days sounds better...........but I am so glad I bought a Solia.
You can get a Solia for $88 on Folica.com. It comes with a 1 yr warrenty. The Sedu (also on Folica) is supposedly better, but I like my Solia just fine....and the Sedu is too expensive for me!
Many people recommend CHI. But I hear they break easily or stop working so well over time.
Just, whatever you do, don't buy one of those cheap Conair ones for $30. They cause a lot of split ends.........
P.S.-->You know an ingredient is silicone based when it ends in "-one", as in "Dimethecone".

All straighteners fry your hair because that intense amount of heat takes all the moisture out and is not natural. If you do get a straightener, make sure to get heat protectant and use it before you straighten. I straighten my hair every day, and I have a CHI flatiron. It works f*cking amazing! I've also heard that FHI is good too, but don't get Bed Head or Conair or anything cuz those are hella gay and don't work at all.

I find that cemetric (spelling?) hair straighteners are great.
As you can adjust the heat setting and its better for your hair,
then a metal plate.
But, its really about common sense when using a straightener. Use lowest setting and spray your hair with a "heat protection" hair product.
