alcohol is sugar that has been concentrated to the max. In the short term it is a booster, but the more you drink the more your body relaxes, because it has a concentrated glucose mixture saturated in the bloodstream. Sort of like eating fudge brownies but concentrated 1 million times. When a person takes the first drink they feel refreshed, the next drink gives a buzz(it is really the 1st drink kicking in)the following next 3 drinks bump up the buzz, at this point most folk retire for the evening. Some keep right on clicking along and get drunk.

The energy is just another way of feeling real good because you are feeling on top of the world. I have all kind of energy when I feel on top of the world. But, eventually the feeling on top of the world, full of energy feeling is fading aand the yawns start up. The next thing I'm ready to lay down and then you know whats next. I believe that could be the reason its a downer.

alcohol is classified as a depressant by the medical community, so yes, it is a "downer". i've seen plenty drunk people put the head on the table & fall asleep suddenly.

Not a drinker, are you? Well, I used to be. Alcohol is a drug and is catergorized as a stimulant because it stimulates or relaxes you(slows your reflexes, slurs your speech). In college, me and my crew used to mix Jolt cola (remember? 'All the sugar and twice the caffiene') with Bacardi 151. And then try to play basketball a 2AM. Ahh, the memories. All that to say that straight liquor will make you drowsey(ask my dad), the sugar content of a mixed drink will perk you up. Cheers!

After that "high" you feel initially it will gradually go to depression. Alcohol is a depressant, it stimulates nerves that sends messages to your body.
