Yes, but if it is of recent import, it must be converted to semi-automatic.

The AK-47 is manufactured as a fully-automatic weapon, meaning that it is able to fire repeatedly as long as the trigger is pulled back. Before they can be imported and sold in America, they must be modified to shoot only a single bullet with each pull of the trigger.

Whenever you hear about AK-47s in the American news, you're not hearing about machine guns, unless the gun was illegally converted back to full-auto.

That said, before 1986, fully automatic weapons could be manufactured and imported into the USA. There may be some fully automatic AK-47s that were imported before then, and are therefore legal for American citizens to own and shoot. However, because they are no longer legally made or imported, existing legal machine guns are outrageously expensive.

Ak 47 Legal

Yes, but there are a bunch of stipulations and regulations with these guns.

There are legal versions in semi and ful auto, depending upon which type you prefer/can afford.
New ones that are built are required to have American "Compliance Parts". Provided that they are semi auto and have 10 or less "counted" foreign parts, they can be legally imported and distributed. These vary in price and quality but you can get something good with $350-500.
Some local laws limit magazine capacity or numbers of "evil features" you can have, such as: muzzle attachments, pistol grips, folding stocks, and night sights.
Full auto gets to be a chore to own. But there are "transferable" models; these can be owned provided you live in a full auto friendly state, can pass a background check, pay a $200 tax, wait a few months, and come up with a lot for cash for the gun. Your wallet will never be same after that experience. The other option is dealer samples. They are way cheaper, but can only be owned by a licensed dealer or manufacturer. The only problem is that you need to keep your licenses current, or you have to dispose of your full auto collection before it lapses.

If you are considering purchasing one, they are very fun at the range. If you are legally able to purchase one here, you probably won't regret it. I would recommend a semi auto as that they are way easier and cheaper to buy. Cheaper to feed too.

American Ak 47

This is the best option to get a background check https://tr.im/aMLW0
Currently there are a lot of reasons to perform a criminal background check in today's community. These arguments vary from questions over a spouse's fidelity to misgivings regarding a recently hired sitter. There are several surprising figures out now that strengthen these doubts, and in many instances it is better to be safe than sorry. You may not realize it, but there can be quite a lot of people checking up on you. Potential employers top the list. Companies usually conduct background checks on job applicants primarily as a means to verify the credentials that you may have listed on your resume.

Ownership of fully automatic AK rifles is tightly regulated by the National Firearms Act (NFA). The Gun Control Act ceased importing of foreign-manufactured fully automatic firearms for civilian sales and possession.

In 1986, an amendment to the Firearm Owners Protection Act stopped all future domestic sales of fully automatic weapons for civilian use (non-military/non-LEO). Fully automatic weapons are still manufactured in the US for military and law enforcement use. However, automatic firearms manufactured domestically prior to 1986 or imported prior to 1968 may be transferred between civilians in accordance with federal and state law.

Semi-Automatic AK-47s, however, are legal and easily obtainable in most states of the United States. Certain states like California have specific restrictions which effectively ban new purchases of semi-automatic rifles like the AK-47.

The NFA of 1986 banned importation of the AK-47 into the U.S. There are still old ones showing up at gun shows for way more than they're worth, however. If you want a new AK-47 style rifle, you can go with a Saiga. Mikhail Kalashnikov personally oversees production of these rifles at the Izhmash factory. They're available in more than just the 7.62x39, mine is actually chambered in 7.62x51, which is a political joke in itself. By changing the trigger mechanism and adding AK-47 styled furniture, it will look just like a very high quality AK-47.

Plus, you're getting a new rifle for $2-300, whereas an AK around here will run over $1000 easily, even more if it's not busted up.

You can see here there really is no significant difference once they've been converted:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-MHj2ttKAs&mode=related&search=

REAL models (select-fire mode) are subject to CLASS 3 restrictions and federal and local approval must be obtained. Semi-auto knock-offs are legal as long as the state or local area where you live does not ban ownership.

Uh.... YES.
Did you think all the hundreds of thousands of AK's for sale here were being offered illegally?
While the Liberal Media loves to give that impression,
it's simply NOT TRUE.
The AK is just another rifle - and with the exception of California and a few other states/cities which have inacted constitutionally questionable specific bans against it, The vast majority of Americans are free to purchase, own, and use one.
While these AK's are for the most part semi-automatics,
There ARE transferrable full-auto AK47's avalible to qualified individuals in the US as well.
God Bless America
