I may not be the first, nor the last, but I'm important enough to be located between the pillars, on top of the only full-time sitting President in Washington D.C. If you think my college mascot is a duck or gopher, well you're aiming to high. Which state am I?

The answer is Massachusetts. On the Lincoln Memorial, there are a list of states that were in the Union when Lincoln (the full-time sitting president, whose statue is sitting) was president. There are two rows of states. The top row includes Oregon (mascot Duck) and Minnesota (mascot Gopher). Below those states and between the pillars is Mass. You can see this on the back of a five dollar bill.

South Dakota?

I couldn't come up with the pillars reference...eliminated Minnesota and Oregon from the mascots referenced. The only full-time sittng President in Washington DC is Lincoln (the Lincoln Memorial statue). South Dakota is located above Nebraska, the capital of which is Lincoln???

LAUGH...thank for the mental exercise!

Maryland?

-------------------------

I don't know what the pillars are...

But the duck is a mascot in NJ....and the gopher is minnesota...

so it's below that...but it's "on top" of the only full time president of the US(there is only 1 now...so it's on top of DC...which maryland is right above it.....right?)
