My two-year-old picked up a (clean) wine glass from the counter when I was doing dishes and pretended to swallow from it. He must have bit down, because it broke - a clean piece of glass broke right off. I obviously snatched it right away from him, and he hasn't complained since (it's been about ten minutes) but now I'm completely freaked out that he could have swallowed fragments of glass. Thankfully it wasn't like it shattered into a lot of bits - just one large piece came off - but still, there could have been small glass shards. I looked in his mouth after and didn't see anything. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would feel foolish rushing off to the emergency room with him when he seems perfectly happy...

As long as he had no bleeding he is just fine and nothing to worry about. He is fine just monitor him over night to calm and relieve your nerves.Best wishes.

Take the piece of glass and match it up to the broken glass to see what is missing. You could pat a white cloth around inside his mouth, cheeks and gums. Probably be OK, but if he did swallow a small fragment that went down just right it is possible that it could puncture or scratch something inside. Be aware of him complaining of any throat or stomach upset, pain, etc over the next several days. Do not know what they could do to find such small particles of glass at hospital, but would be able to detect internal bleeding if worst possible comes to be. I am praying your little boy is OK. I also have a 2-year old and keep everything 3/4 of the way back from the edge of counters and tabletops. Take care.

It would be tough for a small child to swallow glass without cutting the mouth in the process. If there is no blood in the mouth, then probably not a big deal.

He's fine if he didn't say anything it's too small to notice I'm sure. Kids do crazier things... like eat plastic, coins, and staples... this little piece of glass, if there is a piece of glass, should just go through him. I wouldn't even check he's stools to be honest.

if he had chips in his mouth it would bleed but to be on the safe side feed him solids that will help him to pass what ever., if there is any thing.

My brother swolled a small metal screw and the doctors advice was feed him bread and and solids.watch for the screw to come out.

did you put the glass back togethre to see if it was all there and that it fit together like a glove.
or did you panic and pitch it When things happen please try to keep your cool. This help who ever is helping you.

If he hasn't complained, don't worry. If he DID feel any pain or something bothering him, he would have started complaining or crying or something, because kids are really sensitive. So don't worry about it TOO much.
Calm down. =)
