LOL! Trial and error; nothing else. Is it your safe or somebody else's? LOL!

it varies, some are right, left, right, some are left, right, left, and some require a final turn in the opposite direction after the last number until the knob stops itself, then you open the handle. I have two safes, they both start in opposite directions.

That should answer your question. I am confused, I can't even open my own safe with these directions. Actually it varies from safe to safe. there is no set way.

Most combination locks I encounter are right, left, right.
However, my safe at home (Sergent and Greenleaf lock) goes left, right 3 times, left.

right, left past the first number then back to the right to the last number usually.

start right then left other than that it depends on the number of
numbers . ending with no passes of the last number.
