It is quite possible that you do. The signs and symptoms can be varied.
Right lower quadrant pain (unless you are the very very rare person that has everything inside reversed....i.e. the heart on the right not the left liver on the left not the right etc.) then it would be opposite.
Sometimes that pain/tenderness is "periumbical" also. Or the pain is Right lower quadrant and involves the belly button too. Usually the pain is progressive and eventually is constant. There is pain with Right lower quadrant deep palpation and there is rebound tenderness. (not a good thing to do as it can cause an appendix to rupture). You know laxitives are a "no-no" if you think you have appendicitis.
Usually there is an significant elevation in white blood cells...that climbs even higher if it ruptures. You would also develop a temp. You begin to look pale and feel as bad as you look. If you hop on the right foot is hurts pretty bad as that involves a ligament near the appendix. You will feel tired/wiped out. Have no appetite. It could be an ovarian cyst or a kidney stone too. They have similar symptoms. that is why the lab work and CT or MRI is necessary
Lab work and an MRI or CT can be diagnostic for appendicitis especially when it correlates to the clinical and history picture given.
They just recently figured out what the appendix does.
When you have a bout of protracted diarrhea and/or get antibiotics that wipes out your normal colon flora...the bacteria held there can reseed the colon with normal bacteria. Obviously, you can survive nicely without it.
You probably know...if it ruptures... bacteria is released into the abdominal cavity...and there is risk of septicemia (blood infection) and then shock...where you loose your blood pressure.
Sometimes they take them right to surgery and other times they just put a drain in and put the person on IV antibiotics to calm things down and then go to surgery. The body tries to wall off the infection.
Sometimes you have the opportunity to have a laparoscopic appendectomy or a routine open appendectomy. I would go with what the surgeon wants to do...there are pro and cons with appendectomies.
If it is getting worse during the night...just go to the emergency room. They can work it up and the doctor can do the surgery in the moring....provided you havent eaten anything. So don't eat anything after midnight tonite...in case, you have to have surgery ...you will be ready!
Good Luck! ....that is my BEST ANSWER!

I had an appendicitis last year, in February. Obviously, I was feeling nauseated, so I was in the bathroom trying to throw up. Suddenly, I felt really sharp, stabbing pain on my lower right side, just like you did. I got out of my bathroom, and started rolling on my bed. My family called 911, and the next thing I knew was that I was in emergency room.
I was relieved from the pain when I got to the emergency room. No idea how it happened, but I thought I was ok. However, after all the tests, my doctor said it was burst and ruptured. So I had a surgery early in the next morning.
Well, your appendics is removed, and if they are washed out completely, you should not have the pain in the area. Anyway, it will not burst for sure. Ask your doctors about that. With all the antibiotics, I was really sick and I had to have like 5 shirts and 3 jeans on, b/c my body temperature was so high... Hope you'll get through this quickly. God bless..

I had the same pain in my lower left side. I went to my doctor who sent me to the emergency room since I couldn't take the pain. Symptoms include fever and severe pain in the lower right part of your abdomen. My appendix was hours away from rupturing which the doctors said could have slowly led to my death. I would suggest you get it checked out right away. I stayed in the hospital for two weeks, but only because I developed an infection and had to have tubes down my throat, but that should not happen to most people.
No type of food/drink/activity causes this, it just happens on its own.

I had appendacitis when I was 12. I ate Dairy Queen chicken and I think that's what did it. I was sick for three days. Until my mom took me to the doctor. Before that, I was throwing up what looked like green swamp water. I couldn't keep anything down, heating pads, icy hot, etc. didn't work. I couldn't get out of bed. So my mom took me to the doctor, and he pressed on my stomach and let off really fast, and it hurt soo bad. When I had surgery, they cut me open like I was having a c-section for a baby. My appendix had already burst, and since your appendix is connected to one of your intestines, it ripped my intestines, so they had to sew my intestine up, and the acid was eating my stomach, and intestines. The acid had eaten away my appendix. So I had a drain tube going from my nose to my throat for 7 days, was on Potassium, couldn't eat for 14 days, and was in the hospital for 9 days.
