Well, Red China is run by atheists, as was the Soviet Union. How about Cuba? North Korea? Doesn't look too good to me.

Well, it seems this question is more of a complaint. That's fine. Sure, some answers are reactionary and rude, but in an anonymous public forum, you sort of have to expect that. People may store up frustration from problems they encounter during the day, maybe to avoid confrontation or for whatever reason, and use this forum to "vent". I think that's OK. Also, you have to realize that atheists are a pretty despised minority in the US. Most of us (atheists) don't understand why this is, so we are understandably a little upset when people say ignorant things about us and what we do/don't believe. If you ignore those people, you may see a few honest answers from time to time.
As to your question, I don't think the government is or can be "run" by any religious group. The constitution is such that no branch has the ultimate authority in all matters, and so power is dispersed among them. The president and congress are elected by the populace and the supreme court is appointed and elected by the president and congress. Each branch has its share of power, things it can do and things it can't. An atheist in the white house and an atheist majority in the other two branches wouldn't change things dramatically, I imagine. Indeed, the government cannot enforce religion in any way. It's in the constitution.

I suspect it would be a much better one.
You have a lot of nerve calling atheist rude and insensitive, because they posted an answer in a public forum. If you only wanted an answer from people with a religious viewpoint, you should have ask it in church. As things are now, R&S is a section for anyone that has a view on the subject. It isn't only for people with a positive view on the subject. I believe you are the one being rude and insensitive. The sooner we get rid of religion, the better off we all will be.

A politician is a politician... So not much different than it is now... Anyway, how many politicians do you think are truly Christian, and how many do you think use the label to fit the pretty picture of what the people will vote for? One Example (there are many) Dick Cheney: Methodist and the owner of Halliburton... I find it hard to believe that he got all of those govt. contracts in the name of Jesus... I might be wrong but I am thinking it is more about lining his and his "partners" own pockets... You give any person power, be it atheist, Islamic, Christian, Jewish etc. you will find a strong tendency for abuse of that power. Human nature has more to do with the way things happen in the world than religion. Religion is just a nice excuse, front, and veil for what is really going on.

You unfairly accuse the Atheists of being rude and insensitive in this section and in your previous question make it clear that their answers are unwelcome. Is this not a bit hypocritical? Do you really have an open mind to an honest answer ot are you just slipping in a back-handed insult of your own? This country needs an Atheist in charge. Are you blind as to what has happened during the current administration where a Theists who claims to hears voices in his head is almost single-handedly ruining this once great country? I'll vote for a rude and insensitive Atheist who has the ability to think clearly and base his decisions on the best interests of this country during the lifetimes of its inhabitants over a muddle headed christian fundyflub who, like other christians set his priorities on some not gonna happen afterlife.

A government that our forefathers would be proud of. They went to America to escape religious persecution and now we have religious extremist running loose in our political system. They influent our educational system. They decide what we can and can not do to our women's body. There are other legitimate religions out there than Christians and the thought of having them making laws that are highly influenced by their religion is just not fair.

Well probably one that doesn't say we're doing something or making laws based on personal beliefs. More like a middle ground of all of them. More like just normal, basic morals, equality among all people, religions, etc. Religion is for personal, family, and church... if you must do religion publicly, then you shall go through the effort of making it EVERY religion.

Most of our politicians only "believe" what the people want to hear anyway, so I say it would probably be about the same.
As long as they can say two freakin words without UH UM WELL then they'd be better than the current representation!

A better one. Many more lives could be saved from disease. Lack of stem-cell research is denying advancement in medicine that could save lives.
